Hey just a few days ago my transmission has started leaking oil. I have been given it a fair bit over the last few years as i manual shift it almost all the time. It has been felling sluggish over the past few weeks. Is there a gasket on it that might just need to be changed or new transmission? What could be the problem? Also is it better to keep it auto or change it to manual?
Thanks |

there are a few spots they can leak oil....pan gasket...extention housing gasket & seal... reverse servo gasket.... front pump seal////selector shaft seal....take your pick as for driving it manually ideally you should just leave it drive if ya want to last.....but manually now and then wont hurt it to much....

I don't think you'll be up for a new box yet - it's sluggish because it hasn't got enough fluid left in it to operate normally. Seals normally tend to go after 100,000 km's or so anyhow.

I would be checking fluid level first and maybe even draining it and filling up with fresh stuff.

The AU GHIA we picked up last week with supposedly 60ks on it has a leak at the sump gasket and rear output shaft seal, just do a service on it for(repalce oil/filter sump gasket) see how it goes,Thats Alot cheaper than a replacement box,(manual or auto).
Good luck

Manual shifting down the gears in the end you will destroy the clutchs. My brother had his rebuilt and about 6 months later it was rooted because of maual shifting DOWN, manual shifting up shouldnt do to much at all. But theres no point as when you give it a boot the auto will rev it out all the way anyway. As for the sluggish does it do it more when its cold??? a gearbox that has low fluid will slip more cold then it will hot
