Default Should I cut my bump stops?

My ute is on super lows, and the leafspring is pretty much on the bump stop, very harsh and bouncy ride. Should I cut half of it off??

I'm not sure about Leaf Springs, but on normal springs, cutting it is fine.

There are replacement bushes available for the leaf sprung rear end ... I wouldn't cut them down though.

I know when i load mine up a fair bit the bumpstops rest on te axle housing.

How far have you lowered it in the rear???

No, If he knew why, this thread wouldnt exist. Simple as that. I dont mean to sound nasty but i have actually cut bump stops in the past. Its not the way to go about the problem.

Mate, why not inform us as to why you shouldn't do this? I don't know jack about this sort of thing, nor would the starter of this thread or he would not have asked. There are alot of self proclaimed experts on here who tell us that something will or will not work without being able to back it up with an explaination. This is the reason when someone gives a straight out yes or no answer to a question, the person after the info will ask why, to sift through the crap.

This is only my personal experience on the topic of cutting bumpstops. It may vary with different makes of course as clearances may differ. I cut my bumpstops by half and ended up with the diff hitting the floor which made a nice tear in the floor pan under the rear seat. In my opinion it is just stupid to cut bumpstops. If you are almost resting on them then maybe its time to lift the car a bit. Also, I dont think insurance companies would give a payout to a vehicle which has had its bumpstops altered. The aforementioned vehicle had no coils in the back either and i regularly drove it from Geelong to Lygon St. This was 13 years ago. Showers of sparks out the back are not a issue when youre 18 but looking back now, i see how stupid i was. The only suspension travel this car had was the air in the tyres as the front end was sitting on bumpstops also but they werent cut.

you could probably get lower bump stops from a suspension place, bump stops are there to stop suspension damage , i was going to suggest perhaps dropping a few pounds outa your tyres to share some of the shock loads, but i just saw your car (very nice ), and low profile tyres arent going to give much compliancey without risk of rim damage i think.

I just got it done at a suspension shop, you would think they would of sorted it out for me, or atleast question me about the situation.

Maybe get back in contact with them and see what they suggest. Cutting the stops will really only aggrevate the situation ie: it will still bottom out over bumps but it will be alot harsher on your new components. Cheers, Adam.

Im going to be fitting a polyair (air bag support) system in the rear soon.
All up it cost me $1300, thats with 2nd hand 6 day old springs I got off beep beep.
