Hey everyone,
Back from the dead here! Has anyone compared the current 1.5L Mazda2 to the 1.6L Fiesta? I'd be interested in hearing the comparisons! Thanks, Steve

I havent driven the new Mazda2, but from what I read... people reckons it handles REALLY well... almost better than the Fiesta. However the "Australian Best Car" review gave the Mazda2 9/10 for handling. 10/10 for the Fiesta.
The 2 looks REALLY good, the only problem I have with it is the interior :/ I dun like it. IMO, the only threat for the Fiesta in its class is the new Mazda2 and maybe the Polo. But the Fiesta is a 6-yr old car. Why? thinking of downgrading to Mazda2 ? |

I've driven both. They feel pretty much the same to drive except some differences that sway me to the Fez...
1. Power/torque. The 76kW 133Nm 1.5 falls down against the 74kW 146Nm 1.6 in the 2000-4000rpm range, where the Fiesta just walks all over it for torque. The 2 would lose any in-gear race because of this, and not fare well in an off-the-mark drag either. 2. Handling. The Mazda body-rolls ALOT compared to the Fiesta. That's not to say its a body-roll machine, but compared to the Fiesta is is very noticeable. Not something I like. Also the steering is slightly lifeless in comparison. 3. The manual. I hate the location of the 2's shifter. Up there on the dash is really retarded IMO. The Fiesta's floor-shift is nice and as it should be. 4. Quality. The 2 feels cheap to touch, cheap to look at... and cheap in general. When you get in a 2 after a Fez, for me, its like getting into a car a few price categories down. Plus I think the 2 is ugly. They're both exactly the same car, but the German iteration is set up far better then the Japanese one.

Are you guys serious? I know you are a little biased but the 2 looks way better than the Fez, and so it should.

I love my Fez, but I actually like the Mazda2's curvaceous lines. If the Fez had a few more curves like that, and rear wheel drive, it'd be absolutely perfect.

Ford fiesta is definately a good look. Especially in 3 door versions.
The new 2 is a very nice piece of gear. Quality feel to it. Genki looks tops with the little skirt kit and alloys. ESP is optional on maxx upwards i think. I think Mazda have the entire car market stiched up from small to people movers.

No, I'm not downgrading.
Parents were looking to purchase a car, so we drove everything from the Mazda2 Genki to the VW Golf FSi, all in Automatic. Decided on the Holden Astra CD Equipe. Delivery next week! Be back in the future when Ford decide to give me an XR4 press car to review. Peace out!
