Default New to Victoria ... from Queensland!

G'day all,

Thought I would introduce myself here because early September I and my wife and kids are moving down your way from Sunny Queensland ...... Don't ask why ..... and I won't BS ya ;)

We are both Nurses and decided a little while ago that we needed a change in scenery ... so being a Crow Eater originally, we decided SA was not the place to go to .... lmao! NSW seems just a little too much like Qld ... so Vic was the obvious choice ..... Tassie is too far removed from reality ... WA is ...... where the hell is it? ;) .... Apparently there is another state .... but I kept thinking it was drunk .... haha!

We are heading down in 2 weeks to check out Bendigo and Wangaratta, we aren't really city people so we want to be close enuf to the country that we don't feel suffocated. We have just sold our house in a small town of just 500 people ... and 30 minutes from Gympie or 45 minutes from Noosa .....

I have been involved in the car scene locally for the past 7 years ... yes, a late bloomer.... at 27 years of age I purchased an XBGT ... and have been hooked ever since. The GT is gone, I am currently restoring a 73 XA Falcon 500 ute ... Factory 351 auto ... GS optioned. Am doing as close as possible, a factory restoration.

We have just today purchased an 03 BA XR6T in Blueprint. Wifes car, she tells me I can get a GT next year ..... woohoo.

I have been the President of the Cooloola Car Club Inc .... for the last 3 years and a member for the last 7.

I have run Motorkhana events on a Driver Training Skidpan as the President ..... and assisted prior to this. We have an average of 55 participants per event .... coming from areas between Bundaberg and the Gold Coast. The club has been running these events for 14 years ... and the last 2 have seen it go from a basic club event to a genuine Entry Level motorsports event.

I made a heap of positive shanges to the club, bringing it out from obscurity to showcase the benefits of what we do, not only to members but also to the local community. These changes included improvements to our clubrooms, new designed club shirts and increased sponsorship, a website and forum, newspaper stories after each event and reaching out to other car clubs across the state to introduce ourselves and tell them what we do. This is how I discovered the FPV and XR clubs ... with the Qld branch regular visitors to our Motorkhana events.....

Wanna see more of what we have done ... go to our website, then head to the Forum .... the website is out of date and needds major upgrading ... which I have organised to happen ... but won't be done before I head down South!

www.c3zone.org

pics??? .... here are my toys.

First up is a pic of my Troll .... it's a 93 GQ 7 seater. petrol and Gas ..... great for family fun weekends playing in the dirt and in the sand.

Next up is my project .... Project XA

and now the latest addition to our family ..... the XR6T

G'Day xbgt1974 and family ...... as a former QLD I too sometimes ask myself how I ended up here.......

You will very quickly find are a very social bunch with buckets of events - Sunday runs traipsing all over the state along anything but the main hwy........ tech nights, track days, factory tours etc.......

Feel free to stick your head in at any meeting or gathering we have- we don't bite...... (well not after 9am anyway :Up_to_som )

Wang is under an hour from Winton - that might keep you occupied on weekends...!!!

Ohh... and if you are anywhere near Shepparton on Sunday Aug 26th we are running a motorkhana day at DECA - check the website for the details - come down and say hi : ..................

Hope to see you soon,

Thanks Karyn,

I will certainly be joining in on some of your events and the Motorkhana at DECA sounds like a plan ;) We haven't yet worked out exact dates for when we fly down (but I can see aan XR6 hire car being used ) but we should be moving down on or about the 5th or 6th of September .....

I have already had a bit of involvement with Winton Raceway, they actually cover our motorsports insurance at the moment (AASA), so am keen to check things out quite a bit more there and I so wanna put my ute on a reacetrack once she is done ...

Look forward to meeting up with you guys soon then

Daryl.

No worries there Trev, it's good to finally be able to move down there .... we have been discussing the idea for some 6 months and after the house being on the market for less than 3 months, it sold, allowing this to all happen. Good times ahead !!!! Hahaha!

Have had an offer for my ute that I am considering seriously ..... involves a 2 owner XW Fairmont in Starlight Blue with Parchment interior. Log Books, matching numbers, column auto 6 cylinder. Original paint and never been molested .... any thoughts from anyone on the idea? Has a GT steering wheel with a horn that works ... lol. 12 slots with original trims and caps ........ factory fitted GT driving lights

hey all,

Just a bit of an update.....

My wife Ann has spent the last 3 days cruising around Country Vic from Albury / Woodonga to Shepparton and Bendigo. She has been staying in Benalla as we have friends that live there.

Ann tells me that she definately wants to live in Bendigo and that it is a really nice town, so I guess that is where we are headed.

Now the sale of our house fell through with the buyers opting out in the cooling off period because of a job offer which meant they would be required to move about 800km further north. Not much ya can do about that.

So anyway, a week ago we had another contract signed and the cooling off period is now over and the only thing left is the regular building and pest inspection clause and finance clause. Since both are employed and have just sold another house to buy ours, I am confident that finance is not going to be an issue. Building and Pest, well I can't see that there will be too many issues there iether, the house is pretty solid (all hardwood) and I cannot see any issues that might arrise, however, I am no building and pest expert ... lol.

Settlement is the 17th of September, however, if all goes to plan this time around, we will be hitting the road on the 14th and should arrive in Bendigo on the 17th. I will be the one in the Green and Silver Nissan Patrol towing an Orange XA Ute ..... decided against the swap .... as much as an XW would be nice, this ute will be like a new car and since I have come this far with it, I should probably finish it and enjoy it ....

We have started packing already, and had a few parts sold off with more going this weekend, so I should be able to start to move around inside my shed ..... which has just one car in it and was built for a bus .... yes, I have accumulated loads of parts and ebay has seen many of them in recent weeks ... hehehe!

Enough for now ..... will keep people posted on where we are at and what we are doing over the coming weeks.

Cheers,
Daryl

G'Day Daryl,

Good to hear it's coming along- fingers crossed there are no hiccups with this buyer.....

Bendigo's a good place - nice and relaxed with a few good pubs.......

The weekend you come down is the V8's at Sandown - better make sure the Telly is in the back of the Patrol...... :Up_to_som

Hey Darryl,

You will have a great deal of fun with the Vic boys and gals, they are a great crew. I'll no doubt see you at an event or too from time to time as well at some stage.

Yeah and Bendigo was my old stomping ground too, so if you need an intro for anything let me know...good spot.

Good to see you picked up a T as well.

Thanks Stuart, will be good to catch up again mate ........... even if it is so far south ... lol

Ann really liked what she saw of Bendigo and the photo's she brought back of town and the surrounding areas makes the place look very good indeed.

Can't wait to be able to go ...... we have 7 more days left before the contract goes unconditional..............

The T .... yeah, well both Ann and I love driving it .... was a great idea.

Daryl.

Daryl,

Welcome to Vic, we have a very active car culture here so l am sure you will find plenty to get involved in. Bendigo is a nice spot. l live in East Gippsland, if l could move anywhere in Vic l am actually not too sure where l would head, definitely not Melbourne though. Ballarat is a good place, as is Warragul, Torquay and the Healsville area.

Time to invest in some jumpers

Hahaha!! Yeah .... jumpers, I think I have one or two of them ... and 2 Ford Jackets ... lmao

I have family in Warragul ... or just out of there anyways ..... it certainly is a nice spot.

Am very keen to get involved in the local scene, love my fords and next to spending time with my family, cars are right up there ... lol.
I have educated my 2 year old ... she is an avid fan of cars already ....tells us that we bought the XR6T for her, it's "Abigail's racecar" she says .... lmao!

I have been to Vic a few times, but not in the last 10 years ..... so one thing I am really keen for is the opportunity to head on down to the markets and find some new clothes for the new climate .... with myself and 3 girls (wife included) they are going to annoy the buggery out of me until we get there ... haha!

Daryl.

Hi welcome aboard mate, You can not really go wrong with Bendigo, I have lived here all my life and I must say it is allright for a place to live, there is much worse, Ballarat is to cold and the rest you have mentioned are to far away for conveniance, Bendigo is very central, Melb is only a short stroll down the hwy, as with most off the motorvehicle events, Bendigo is easy access to them all, it is a small enough city to be not like Melb or Geelong, there is everything you need here, I see you are a nurse, do you have jobs allready in Bendigo, I work for the Bendigo Health care group, it is a good place, what part of town are you looking to go for, ???.

We haven't got work yet, but being Nurses ... we should be right ..... fingers crossed ... lmao!

We have just applied to rent (first time in many many years) in Epsom ....... nice 4 br home with all the bits I need .... 2 car garage ..... 2 toilets ..... and somewhere to park the trailer ... lmao!

Since you are a local, we might have to catch up and you can introduce us to the local car scene ...

We should be there on the 18th ..... just gotta work out when we can get the furniture there .... is a bit more to moving the whole family than just going down in the cars ... oh well.

Daryl.

I spent 2 and a half years in ED at Gympie Hospital and really enjoyed it. On the down side, the staffing was really poor there and we were in a very antiquated building. On the upside, this enabled me to gain loads of skills and experiences that in many other places I just would not have had the opportunity to receive. Having been on 4 rural placements ranging from 6 weeks to 4 months, I have also been able to extend that knowledge, to the point that I treated a cattle dog for dehydration and constipation with no Doctor on site ... lmao.

I need to go and talk to the Nursing Board about registration, then I will be over to Bendigo Health for some Casual work .... to start with ... then Part time if all goes well.

Daryl.

I promise, it won't be too long before we venture out on one of your cruises. As you can imagine, with a move from 2 states away, packing and unpacking is quite the nightmare ...... and it probably doesn't help that we moved from a HUGE house to a regular 4 bedroom house ..... and there just is not the same amount of space for things to fit .... lmao!

Looking at buying an EF XR8 (trading out of the Patrol) is 200k on the clock, auto, very tidy looking car, taking it for a test drive on Monday and having a really good look over it. Any thoughts on these and suggestions for when I look at it? Is located in Melbourne.
