Default 2000 KN LASER GLXi 1.8l won't start and no-one can help

A family member has a 2000 KN laser that has a faulty computer and the mechanic is at a loss and so am I. The computer has been to Queensland, Victoria and now back to S.A, still faulty. A new computer is not available as the 1.8 litre automatic was not a common model of car. I believe that it is a Mazda 323, and just rebadged by Ford. Does anyone know how this computer can be fixed or where I can tell the mechanic to obtain another module. A second hand computer would suffice. The car has been out of action for 5 WEEKS ! HELP!

My wifes 1999 Laser just recovered from a similar problem. Immobiliser was faulty. 2 mechanics and 3 auto electricians couldn't fix it. Told me even f they got the parts, no one could reprogram the system. In despair I bought an ECU, immobiliser, ignition switch all from the same car with keys at the wreckers for $185. Installed the replacement parts and car started first time and has not stopped since. This is after spending 2k on towing, crank and cam position sensors, sending ecu and bits away.. even the local dealer wouldn't look at it.
