I was driving yesterday in my ba xr8 and went through a part of the road that was flooded. Went through slow and water was below the base of the door but the car cut out and won't start. When you try and kick it over it sounds like a flat battery but its not. So i think it must have swallowed some water but what type of car can't go through water that shallow? I mean crappy little echos were making it. Any thoughts on what it could be?

There are many things that could cause that, obviously water got into some ignition device. Has it dried up, Does it start now?

Sounds like your starter motor has taken in water, you'll probably find the solenoid connections are wet, if you have access to compressed air try giving it a good blast and dry it out !!

Sounds like you glupped up some water try the electricals first if not take the top off your inlet manifold take plugs out and clean it all out
played with many falcons with water damage and most are still driving now with no problems

Pretty sure an Echo sits a bit higher off the ground than an XR8 ute....

Spraying suspected components with WD40 should also help!!!

Also check your filter hasn't taken a load of water in- this shouldnt stop it cranking but while you are under the hood it should be checked....
I did the same to mine but WD40 and a good drying out had her working again pretty quickly.
