Default sway me. (thinking about buying non ford)

Hi guys. I'm maybe a month or two from thinking about upgrading my car.
I've really enjoyed the Ba xr6 and It still looks tops but she's coming up to 100k and I've actually almost paid it off. I'm 26 now so insurance isn't as much of a problem so I'm itching to get into something a bit more fun (quicker). I guess the most important thing is to just get out and test drive some cars. See what takes my fancy. I love the look of the FG's Especially the utes but I'm thinking about going a bit smaller. I'm not worried about petrol but I've always had Falcons so a change might be nice. The XR5 looks the goods but what I'm looking at is the new Lancer Ralliart hatchbacks. I think they look brilliant. They are turbo all wheel drive. Only come in Auto though with flappy paddle. The sacrifice is the Interiour feels cheap compared to the ba. I'll stop rattling on now. any thoughts?

True. I've never met a male Lancer owner. Ever. Something in them appeals to the females. Not that that makes them a bad car.

Theres heaps of male EVO drivers...

We have the standard Lancer hatches at work and I think the rear looks crap to be honest. So does everyone there. I dont think these things will be overly quick. Only 170 or so kw.

I'm not a fan of the new lancers, just the front end looks big and boofy. However I wouldn't think that you need to be "swayed" to buy something other than Ford - buy what suits you (and what you'll enjoy) most.

I have a male friend with an EVO IX. Tricked & tuned punching out 500hp. No girls car. But it is a one dimensional buzz box. Wildly fast, cheap inside & out, uncomfortable, poorly equipped (no cruise control), poor ride & noisy. I'd hate to live with it, but it is fast.

Seems like once a month there is a thread started about how Ford should build a HO that is stripped bare with a kick motor and suspension. Most people seem to like that idea ....

The Ralliart ain't a slouch by any means.
It'll be a hell of lot more fun around the twisties than the bargeassed falcon.

I think the Lancer's a good choice. Fun to take it out on the twisties and give it a bit of a whirl and still have the practicality of a 4 door sedan.

How about the Evo X? Are they within your price range? Can't really go wrong with Turbo and AWD =)

Ralliart Lancer = Resale and birth of a new cult car - AWD, SST Dual clutch gear box, detuned Evo X engine with Evo IX AWD drivetrain, popular, reasonable built quality, reasonable aftersales experience.

Falcon = No resale, arguably beginning it's downward spiral towards it's untimely death, bad image, reasonably bad aftersales experience - either with Ford servicing or quality of build.

That said I do like the front end and proportions of the new lancer, much more aggressive and purposeful. But the back end is something else, I think they got lazy with the rear for both the hatch/sedan. Very bland and uninspiring. Especially that hideous 'supercheap' spoiler on the hatch.

Just test drive the lancer, see if it does it for you. Because in the end (if you like how it looks) it comes down to you in the car, THAT is the deciding factor; not us.

Although it develops 13 more kw, the Mazda 3 MPS is an outgoing model, and FWD.

Mate go check the car out, and a few others. Then find what will make you happy. If its a Lancer, Falcon or a vespa its your cash. I wouldn't be asking the peanut gallery on here to tell you that if you buy that car your life will change.
Just remember YOU have to drive the car and YOU will be stuck with the car. If you have doubts about it then wait till you don't have doubts and get the car that makes you happy when you jump in and turn the key.

Agree ..... can't ask anyone to sway you to buy any car? Put your bum in them and see which makes you smile. A Lancer would be way down on my list as has been said above, chick car if you do want an opinion! But given the options above I go the Vesper ........

I think it's a good upgrade. You will lose boot space, but if that's not a concern to you, it's definitely a good choice. Falcons are great, but after a while theres so many of them, resale really kills you. I'd jump in and test drive it first. I'd also be looking at running costs and insurance and just compare it between your current car and this. Weigh up your options, go from there.

The 3 MPS has hidious tourqe steer, and doesn't feel all that fast, I wouldn't recommend that.

You've driven one?

I wouldn't say the torque steer was hideous but it was noticeable on the one I test drove and it would have absolutely snotted my XR8, no problem. That being said, I didn't buy it.

I don't like the back of the hatchback on the Ralliart but if I was in the market today, I'd take it for a spin and see how she went.
