Default AU11 Locked in 3rd gear Help

AU11 is locked in 3rd gear. Starts off in 3rd and stays there. Took it to an auto transmiss specialist. He sent it on to an Auto Electrician, been there for 6 weeks now. He seems at a loss as to where the problem lies.
Replaced the transponder but not sure what else he has done or is doing. Any help appreciated.

hi desnret
3rd gear is known as 'limp home mode' - some error has happened. chances are its not a transmission problem, and chances are its something that can be diagnosed in 5 minutes with a scan tool which many mechanics have, or any good auto elec.

Hi Mr Hardware,
He has shown me readouts from a gadget he plugs into the dash somewhere and the readings are normal. He has had the console tested and it is normal. tested the wiring continuity and is ok. He seems to be looking at the CGU (computer) now. You are right, he doesn't know what he is doing as far as this problem is concerned. Neither did the Ford Dealer who has serviced the car since new. That is why this guy has the job now.
Just don't know where to turn.

You will need a new computer! I had the same problem 8 weeks ago. This is what mine did. You can put your foot down to take off and the car will slowly accelerate away. Then you can manually select 1st, 2nd and 3rd but cannot get 4th. The local dealer replaced mine under warranty so i cant tell you a price.

Sounds like the S5 solenoid in the box.

Common thing.

Disconnect the car battery for 20 minutes both negative and positive. Then reconnect it.It should be ok with a little luck.

Hi Swanee,
I guess the 'box' is the gearbox am I right? I don't want to sound too awkward when I mention it to the Auto Elec. Thanks

Yes, the S5 solenoid is in the automatic transmission.

Holy crap 6 weeks!

I feel for you mate, I'm suprised Ford didn't know what was going on with it.

After all, no one knows a Ford like your local Ford dealer....

ROFL try saying that out loud with a straight face!

Good luck with it
