Thumbs up 2011 Ford Fiesta XR4 Turbo

NEW SPY PHOTOS obtained today reveal that Ford is deep in development of the new Fiesta ST, likely to be sold locally as the 2011 Ford Fiesta XR4 Turbo.

Powered by the turbo-charged EcoBoost version of Ford's new 88kW 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine, the Fiesta ST / XR4 Turbo is expected to produce around 125-130kW. On this spied prototype, a front-mounted intercooler is visible behind the Fiesta's shark-like grille.

The hot new Fiesta is likely to enter the Australian line-up above the current range-topping Fiesta Zetec (review here), replacing the previous generation's naturally-aspirated 2.0 litre 110kW Fiesta XR4.

Style-wise, the spied prototype is sporting low-offset 17-inch alloy wheels, a large rear spoiler and a new rear bumper with faux diffuser and twin exhaust pipes.

The 2011 Ford Fiesta XR4 Turbo's official debut is some time off yet, with an Australian debut likely to occur around the middle of next year.

Believe it when I see it.

Yes, I think there will be a WS ST for Europe ... but will Ford Australia bring it here?, they only brought just over 1300 WQ ST's to Australia right at the end of that models life cycle ... don't hold your breath waiting for a new XR4.

Difference being we now have the "One Ford" program, and the WS Fiesta is one of the first cars part of this program - almost the exact same drivetrain/engines/components in all countries in which the car is sold.

Which I reckon increases the chances of the WS ST/XR4 coming here significantly. This Fiesta is starting to sell in big numbers for Ford Australia (1000+ last month), and they will be keen to keep the popularity of the car fresh and extend the model range.

I reckon we'll see the 1.6 T4 here in XR4 guise sometime next year.

So long as the engine is released in time for when this original one wears out, that will be close enough for me. We have Euro emissions now so it's no problem

2011. The Euro Fiesta will have a facelift late next year, EcoBoost will become available on selected models, expect the 6-Speed DSG to sneak its way into Europe and count on an ST. Wether Ford Australia bring it or not is another story, keep in mind our Fiestas will come for Thailand mid way through the year os it'd mean a similar scenario to the Focus, normal models from South Africa, XR5/ST from Europe. There will be an ST, the Polo GTI, Renault Clio, Vauxhall Corse VXR, the list goes on. Europe loved the ST Fiesta, they didn't like the 2.0L engine due to the tax and insurance bracket it put the car in. They will make either a 1.6 Turbo or 1.4 Turbo EcoBoost engine, expect the former though as a similar engine will go into the Focus (I think the 1.4 EcoBoost will come in lower models). Bring it on...

I wonder if Ford will talk to the government about getting these Ecoboost engines P plate exempted under fuel efficiency like VW and Mercedes did here in Victoria for their small turbo engines.

Looks nice, I like the wheels and the twin tips out the back; but it looks like the same side skirts and rear bumper as the Zetec (but with a different rear diffuser insert) and same bumper as the Standard Fiesta (but with a larger-than-Zetec-front lip) The addition of an ecoboost engine excites me the most.

Regardless, this puppy will most probably be a goer for the Leadfoot household.

Ok so AutoExpress are about as reliable as, well they aren't, but it's a start. Pictures are based on their wild dreams, but it'd be good if they were true. As I've been saying for a while, expect it in 2011 with a facelifted Fiesta range.

by the time thats out, hopefully mountune have someone in OZ to install their kits... cos they claim 0-100 in 7.9sec with just an exhaust and chip basically... and it should be a couple of thousand to install

Just look for the Euro plates and a gigantic Apple (as in iPhone and iMac) sticker on the back window!

Ford were always going to release this, but I have to say I'm thinking the new Focus will be my next car. With the promis of an EcoBoost ST model, Ford SYNC and those amazing looks, I can't help but want it.

I've had gaffer tape under the bonnet for years. Does that make me the coolest of the cool?

Dunno T. It doesn't conceal the weapon behind it very well! This looks similar to the concept they had running around in the US, but there are some key differences. Be interesting to see if this is actually a Ford prototype or someone doing up Fiestas with a Mountune pack and a turbo pack?

Looks too understated for a Mountune car

The Mountune pack for the MK7 Fiesta is pretty bare though, some stripes, different wheels, some black highlights and a few little bits. A fair few of the cars in the UK fitted with the Mountune engine pack don't have any of the exterior bits and pieces. Never know though, I'd be interested to find it it's a test car from Ford, another performance company or somesones personal car.

Ford's top-secret Fiesta ST has been spied relatively undisguised during testing at the Nurburgring in Germany.

The Fiesta ST is set to be powered by a new 1.6-litre EcoBoost turbocharged engine, rumoured to produce as much as 150kW of power and as much as 250Nm of torque.

The new engine is rumoured to propel the Fiesta ST from 0-100km/h in less than 6.0 seconds, making it quicker than the upcoming Polo GTI (6.9 seconds), against which the Fiesta will compete.

The ST's front-end clearly shows a new gaping air intake that covers a relatively large intercooler, giving the Fiesta ST a real "boy-racer" look.

It also sports a large rear spoiler, new rear diffuser and twin exhaust pipes. It also has some revised bodywork, and a larger set of wheels which sit wider than the current Fiesta's thanks to a wider track which will help the car stick to the road better.

Inside, the car is fitted with a pair of Recaro racing seats, similar to those fitted to the Renault Clio RS, signalling the car's pocket-rocket intentions. The car in question was reportedly being benchmarked against the Clio RS at the time that these images were taken.

But, dear Aussie hot-hatch enthusiasts, don't get your hopes up just yet. The Fiesta ST is unlikely to be seen on your local streets anytime soon.

Local Ford spokesman Peter Fadeyev says the Australian branch has "no knowledge of a Fiesta ST, and therefore consequently no plans for such a model".

The car pictured can clearly be seen to be left-hand-drive, and the fact the Fiesta ST is a three-door model further rules it out for Australia as Ford's local operators will soon cease sales of the three-door model in favour of its new Thai-built sedan. Ford's Fiesta five-door hatch will also remain.

Ford's Fiesta ST is likely to make its official debut in the coming months.

Ford Australia sold an XR4 hot-hatch version of the previous generation Fiesta, powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, but it was discontinued in 2008.

Geez its gotta come in a 5 door surely.... Easy way to eliminate half your customer base by only doing a 3 door version... Same as the old XR4 and probably why it didnt sell many considering it was a great hot hatch

As compact as the Control Blade setup in the Focus is, I think it'd massively impact on the space in the humble Fiesta, not to mention the cost. The boot of the Fiesta is already smaller than many of its competitors, and an IRS setup would further impact on that. We can dream though!

If they are building an xr4 or RS im pretty sure that boot space is the last thing on their mind.....

you have to understand that in the UK these things are massively popular. They are the equivelent to our falcon XR Range. The biggest car in the UK is the Mondeo and even then not everyone has one due to the fact they are huge!!!! a normal sized car in the UK is both the fiesta and the focus Range....

but as you said... we can can dream.

P.S - My Gf's 1996 Lancer has blade suspension....figure that one out ford!
