Default Coolant Leak

So as you can see from the photo I have a coolant leak, how would this be fixed?

looks like a welsch plug...
easy fix..
pop that one out and put a new one in....
very eeeasy!!!

Easy fix. But might be an idea to replace all of them and change the coolant/corrosion inhibitor

Looks like too much effort, I'll take it in to get it fixed. Can I pack it with something to stop it leaking too much to drive 10km without making the job too much harder?

I did one on my AU not so long ago after a leak on the way shopping turned to the smell of coolant and worry,so I made it home and bought the set with the intent on doing all of them,boy did I have fun getting it in, remove the extractors, alternator/power steering pump,so after an hour or so of struggling to get enough swing on a lump hammer to start the plug,I decided the rest were fine and put it all back togeather,Until another day

Oh and get some "Bars stop leak" to get you temporarily sealed up.

Should be ok for 10 km drive. To play it safe, release the radiator cap and leave it on the first click. This will prevent the system from building up pressure and leaking worse.

Shouldn't get too hot in 10k if you take it easy. Fill it with almost frozen water and go for it.

AUs have failsafe cooling (on petrol, not LPG), so even if you do run it with no water, it will just progressively shut down cylinders to let the engine cool.

engine cylander shutdown is`nt it only on the 6 cylander motor?, some engines also have walsh plugs in the head and in the back of the engine block, if thats the case i usually yank the motor out and do the lot, if one is corroded it would be a fair bet others would`nt be far behind.

My AUs got aftermarket lpg, and it went into failsafe cooling on gas. I go with small351, don't let the system build up pressure by having the cap on loose. I had a pinhole in the radiator on my old XF, drove it for many months with radiator cap on loose. Needed to top it up only about once a week over winter.

Failsafe cooling was standard on all I6 engines in the AU range.

Failsafe cooling isn't compatible with LPG, well that's what my handbook says anyway.

LHM and failsafe cooling are different, so maybe that's what AMB experienced?
