Exclamation FORD Dealer v Toyota Dealer Servicing Costs

I had my Fairmont's 60,000km service done by a FORD dealer, $280.
My father in law had his Corolla's 70,000km service by a Toyota dealer, $152 plus $45 for spark plugs inc fitting. Big difference !! Comparing log books it is the same service, a minor service. Interesting difference in cost !!!!!!

What are the book times for each services? Don't forget that the Ford will take a lot more oil than the Toyboata. Be interesting to see a break down of each invoice tho!

ford also like to charge for things that either aren't done or are not necessary. things such as injector clean on egas cars, or auto trans flush on manuals, there are a lot of other things they do. so be very wary.

I will agree to that, got ripped off by DALE FORD (NSW) for $500 for just a service few years ago. Most of things on the list weren't done at all.
Saying that mate got good service from Ford somewhere near Black Town (NSW).

tried to charge me $300+ for 5L oil and filter (back in 2002)

Same same, they are run by beancounters who want to make money. that is one way to make money, albeit at the expense of future repeat business.

I don't know where people get the idea that Ford or Holden etc run the dealerships. They are all independantly owned and run. You cannot put all the Ford dealers (or any other manufacturer) into one big category and condemn them all beacuse of the way that one of them charges. My advice to anyone getting a service done is to ask for a peice beforehand and find out what is included. A job card outlining the work to be done and the charges should be signed by you before you walk off and leave your car there. Sure, any service advisor worth his salt will try and upsell you injector cleans etc, but find out before you get it done!
I have lost count of how many threads there are on here regarding service rip offs after they have been done. Sorry, thats the wrong time to complain!

Well they only complain due to being rorted. I think that is fair call. I know people who have worked for dealers and have done really good work but the service manager wants to charge for extras. most of the dealers are franchises so are independently owned.

I wasn't complaining about the cost or rip-off, just making an observation.
Might explain why the cardigan cars are outselling FORD???? If the buyer enquires about servicing costs and Toyota is cheaper ,might influence the sale ???? just my observation.

Toyota make quality cars, and since most people want a car that simply doesn't break down, they sell a lot.

However, I think Toyota are selling due to their reputation and the quality is dwindling. Hyundai are trying to establish themselves and are building quality cars now.

So quality = no breakdown only
therefore my cheap plastic $10 tefal electric kettle which I keep in the garage is a quality item cause I've had it for years and it hasn't broken down once...

They did invent the lean manufacturing techniques which everybody now follows.

Got a camry as a company car ...neary tossed the job in I was so angry...
Picked it up with 5km on the clock and practically cried all the way home knowing I'll be stuck with this "whitegood" for 4 years...

ok if you're over 70 or a mummy's boy or not interested in cars...
which is obviously is a good portion of Australia...!

I had a customer call person call me from my local Ford dealer here in Newcastle to ask a few questions.
One of these question involved whether i was happy with the service team. I told him that i didn't get my car serviced thru them. He asked why. I then proceeded to tell him that it cums down to cost and the fact my brother is a mechanic and i get parts at trade rates. He could understand why i didn't go thru them but suggested that i (every now and again) send the car in for a diagnostic/maintenance check for updates etc. He couldn't tell me the price of the check though.:(

cheaper to service maybe it has that fixed price servicing? Also a lot of toyota parts are very expensive.

I think Toyota had a promotion last May & June that service costs were capped at a certain cost on the Aurion, Camry & Corolla. But some dealers charge more than others as well.

Some truth in that about the cost of toyotas parts, one of our companys work utes, only a year or two old, needed a grommet or a bush on the manual gear shift replaced, the part alone they say was $480 plus labour, the boss nearly fell over. Has any one else heard of these minor parts being so expensive? In saying that all of the work utes are toyotas and they are pretty indestructable and very rarely need major work done to them, some of the older ones have over 300,000 k on the clock and still going considering the flogging they get.

My previous employer had a Toyota fleet and one of the Hilux 4x4s had
a gear lever failure like you described, it was replaced free of charge...

Wifey has owned a black RAV4 CV for close on 18 months now, only 12,000 Kms on it.
Takes it in for the six monthly service to wipe the spiders off the dipstick....

The big difference between Ford and Toyota dealerships is
how they treat their potential buyers - especially the women.
When purchasing a small SUV, I let my wife do the research and
leg work with all the dealerships. We crunched the numbers and
how the sales people treated her when she visited them.

Judging by our experience, Ford must be losing hundreds of sales daily....

hmmm i don`t believe toyota`s never break down, i`ve had a few of my brothers toyo`s on the back of a tandem behind my ford over the years, and a service is a very subjective thing, a corola is a wheel barro compared to a fairmont, why not apples for apples aurion, falcon, comodore, and from what i can see a front wheel drive is ahead for a start does`nt the diff share engine oil ? not up with current fwd , the old mini`s from memory engine ,gearbox, diff all lubed by engine oil? can someone confirm this, you get my drift anyway.

In a modern FWD, diff and trans share the same oil.

no pun intended -but ...Bugger!

I do agree though. The service costs are steep, no matter what brand. Cost me $280 for basically an oil change + plus so called inspection. (that failed to unearth a leaking diff seal last time)

i'm just glad my mechanic will stamp my logbook for me, even though I do 80% of the servicing myself.

re: toyota

when I'm no longer into cars for the shits 'n giggles, i'll be buying a toyota or lexus for sure.

You can always get your toyota guy to service your ford... i am a ford guy who works for toyota, and we service every make and model.
