Hey everyone, im new on this forum ( be nice =P haha )... Im not technically a Ford owner.......
BUT... I am bored of my Magna... (long story short, its all silly little things that annoy me, such as a leak in the passenger footwell.. i can fix it, but meh... nothing major, infact the car itself is pretty much perfect to me...) So anyway, Lately I have been thinking, about these two, completely different and unrelated cars... =S The Mitsubishi GTO (twin turbRo 3litre GT-R killer) and the new Falcon G6e turbRo... (or xr6 turbRo) Whats everyones opinions on these two cars here? (obviously more on the Falcon haha) Anything to look out for or think about, (running costs, etc...) Thanks in advance =]]

You cant compare the cars really. One comes with a warranty, seats a small family, tows heaps of stuff and runs anything from a mid 12 to a 13 flat. Stock.
The other is a grey import that back in the day im sure was great, and still looks good when left alone but I could only imagine it being a nightmare to own now unless it was just a weekender. Dont know what times the mistu runs but it couldn't be much faster/slower than the G6ET, but it does alot less. The only reason id get the mitsu would be for the manual.

i too came over from a magna (TH). the GTO will be nothing but headaches, if you have the money get the G6Et, youll never look back
quarter times arent the only thing that matters when buying a car so have a look at the rest of the package.......... and the G6Et will leave almost anything (in its price range) for dead for performance, luxury and styling

thanks everyone, I do want a manual too... just a stab in the dark, would a manual conversion be remotely worth it on a G6ET or should I just stick with an XR?

Im very curious where everyone gets their 400m times from. Being a Mitsubishi fan, i can tell u for a fact that the GTO (3000GT) is by no means a GTR killer, Id call it more a 200sx keeper uper a. The XR6 is no different. However the thing that needs to be kept in mind is the easily avaliable power up parts, for the falcon. So if u want to stand out from the crowd, (It may be amusing to know that i acctually saw a drag race bettween a GTO and a EF station wagon last week, the Gto won by a car length...LOL)Buy a 3000GT, however if u want a quick all rounder with great parts avaliability, and exellent tuning avaliable, the XR6 is the go. I know personally of 1 guy who has spend 21K to restore his 95 GTO... yes $21,000 of his hard earned on center bearings/every shaft you can think of, 2x manual gearbox's and 4x turbos which still aren't right... and it goes no faster than it did the day it came from the factory, i used to like them alot, then i saw how hard parts are and how *robust* they are...

Turbo Ford FTW!
As been said above, better all round car by far, cheaper bits and it's made locally. I love the fact that both my Fords were made less than 15 kays from my house. GK

hey all i got a 290 v8 motor and box box is good but the motor needs rebuilding know if they any good or if they worth any ting i want a v8 but this seems to old for what i need im doin a xf 86 up and lookin for a 302 or 351 are the 290's worth a swap for one or out of the league besides windsors and clevelands

The push rod engines would need rebuilding due to age..
I would go the Mod motor to be new and different... Mod motors seem to go better with forced induction when it comes to mods... Alot of $$ can be spent N/A and gain very little... welcome to forums... To answer o/p I would go the new Falcon... Tech has come along way the last few years.. Ford has had to re engineer the transmission a few times to get it right .. Btw the auto in them are hard to beat and match turbo VERY well !!! Much easier on CV joints etc also...Times are far more consistent...

People who like to sidestep the clutch ;)
me and some mates had a GTO, no way would I pick one of those over a turbo falcon. The damn gto was a nightmare to get anything for, it broke down a lot and was never really that much fun. A g6et might look more expensive now due to it being new, but in the long run it's a cheaper, more reliable car.

How hard would it be to get parts for a mits GTO? sounds like a potential headache. Go the ford, local parts, lots of go-fast bits available too.

The GTOs were quite heavy too from memory.
Love the G6ET Falcons, I still turn my head whenever I see one. |
