Wow, once upon a time I could jump on the RTA website and bang out a dozen clever number plates just for fun as a sort of mental excercise, playing with all the letters and numbers to make something cool, without resorting to $440/year custom jobbies, but those days seem long gone...!
Just spent the past 24hrs noodling around, trying to find something suitable for my XR8 and I found something I love, to be sure, but man, there are a lot of license plates taken these days -- even REALLY obscure ones that you think, "No one on earth can possibly have thought of this combination..." LOL. You guys and gals experiencing the same thing? |

Yes I have ...
I have spent heaps of time on there ... Omg, I put in so many different ways & can't have it :( I don't really like the #'s instead of the letters, So it's time to get more creative, omg lol :** |

There are some very clever plates, some totally stupid ones, and a few pretty obscure.
Really, if you can't figure it out in the time it takes a car to drive past you in traffic, it's probably a bit too complicated. I don't like the 'numbers as letters' thing either, so mine are $400/year. I ask myself why, every year when I get the bill for them, but I still like them, so they'll stay for awhile yet.

Qld it's just a one off fee and their yours for life. Anyone want to sponsor a set for the Booger Mobile ? |

Naturally, if you make up something of your own creation, in any order of letters and numbers, that's $440/year... always has been a fee, too. But our RTA has figured that people LOVE making the customised plates based on the standard letters and numbers so you now pay a one off fee between $110 and $200 to make them (depending on what plates they are -- coloured, footy team, FPV/HSV, etc), and then $90/year to keep them. When your roads and traffic people realise they can make more money like this, they'll probably do it, too :( |

I have 3 sets of plates an extra $90/year each car but I like my plates each one says something about the car its on.
With the pay per year thing some plates become available again if the vehicle they were on is let run out of rego or the owner elects not to renew the plate fee and fits new std. plates. My plates on the subie have been leased before and they came available whilst I was considering options for it.

this is why alot are not avaliable QLD plates, i just got some personal plates for the XC and only paid $415 and mine for life(no yearly fees) so anything is possible maybe go for simple combinations you mite get one sometimes |
