Told by a friend today that Julia Gillard is looking at ways to entice people to remove older cars from the road. My concern is that these type of policies may become compulsory and make life difficult for car enthusiasts of pre 1985 cars.
here is a link to what has been reported. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/nati...-1225896392135

I don't think there is to much to worry about they tried it in the USA and it failed.

And 2k isnt going to go to far to helping a trade in. Besides which most of the cars they want off the road are owned by people who can just afford to run them let go into debt for a newer one.

I was wondering if this thread would pop up.
My only fear is all those people who have old 'restorable' cars (that they see as a bomb) may use this to get a decent amount of money for their old Fords or Holdens etc which will make it harder for us project seekers to find potentially nice restorers. Just a thought i had on the matter. |

The government knows this plan won't cost them too much - people who are driving around in a sub $2000 POS usually aren't in a position to come up with another $10000+ to upgrade to a new car. My first car was second hand, my current car bought second hand and my next car will be second hand. Buying new doesn't make financial sense to me - those with more cash/ better earning capacity can manage it and that's fine if that is what they want.
