Default Looking for a new engine

Hey guys,
Well, my engine is leaking like a seive, and Ive pretty much given up.
Its going to be a head off job to fix, and I just cant be bothered, time wise and all the costs for the car have been spiralling a bit out of control.
ANYWAY,
long story short, its going to cost me $1200 to pull the head again and get it all fixed up or $395 for a new engine.
Thats the easy part.
The hard part is Im really chasing an AU XR6 HP engine.
If I cant find one, fine, so be it. If I can, awesome.
If anyone knows someone, or can find one somewhere, these are the prerequisites.
I need a cost, obviously.
It must have NO LEAKS.
It must have drove fine before I get it.

I dont care about KM's as long as its been serviced, doesnt leak and runs well.
Let me know what you can dig up.
Thanks
Josh

monty to put the hp engine in , do you have to get the ecu aswell , or will it run on the standard ecu , as the xr engine runs a different cam and ecu yes ? ?

The VCT engine in the link on the hp engine they want $550 for it, which is a really good price, and actually a very cheap power upgrade for someone if they were willing to do it.

Why a HP engine? As far as I know, internals are the same as the stock motor, with only exhaust being the difference to free up the big 7kw difference.

I want the HP engine, as it has different cam, and different head.
Tibbo, I wasnt going to keep the head and cam combo, go for something with more down low poke, and less up high so I can drop my rev limiter back under 6200 rpm, lol.
Sleeper, not sure about the ECU, but it wouldbe getting flashed tuned, so I dont think I would need it.
And JC, a "Big 7kw difference" comment, not really justified. Tripowers car, standard HP cam and head, 14.2.
Stiddy, exhaust and intake, 14.9
Its always been known to be a MUCH better engine.

Standard AU engine is 157kw.
XR6 HP engine is 164kw.
There's my justification, but didn't realise cam was different (always thought it was just exhaust and tune).

Anyway, was just interested to know why - but if you can get one for around similar money to a standard engine, then why not.

Have fun with it; engine swaps are always so much.....fun!

I think if he wanted to put a barra in it, he'd buy a certain EB with a BF engine in it and swap his gears etc into it.. well, my thoughts anyway... Would be a weapon..

Hopefully he doesn't find an engine this weekend, I don't feel like doing an engine swap this weekend, hahaha... Dazzler, seeing as your offering to help but a barra in it, wanna come help put the HP into it? :P

Also, can anyone else confirm what StealthAu said? If so, the cam must really be suited to these engines.. I think with Josh's stallie, and diff gears it'd certainly be quick. Not to mention have some decent down low poke..

ok, sounds like a plan! I will cancel the plans I had, that I wanted to cancel anyway...

Josh, your engine swap is happening next weekend. Now, find an engine, engine crane, air compressor, and rattle gun..

You're right JC - 7kW difference - WOW, like that's noticeable.

The only thing that is significantly different between them is the ECU map. Especially the auto one which has quite different shift control. When I did the conversion on mine there was absolutely no difference in performance until I put the ECU in - then it really livened up and it was mainly due to quicker auto changes. So in normal day to day driving I couldn't tell the difference - but in zero to 400m through the gears is where it really came to life.

Question

in saying , you could put the XR HP engine in a forte and run the standard ecu , without any drama's , but you need the XR ecu to gain the benefits , now in saying could i put any series 3 auto XR6 HP ecu in once you have installed the hp donk , doesn't it affect your original key's , etc , etc.

BEM controls security, so if you change the ECU at all, you usually have to get it paired to the BEM (or vice versa, BEM to ECU). If you want to put an AU2/3 engine in an AU1, you either have to use the AU1 engine bits like coil pack, alternator etc as they are different to AU2/3, or just replace the engine bay harness with the AU2 one, or splice in the AU2 bits you need (if you decide to use AU2 coil packs).
