YOU WIN DAZZLER
Thats just awsome,
always amazes me that people do up motors (even in Ford Forums)that stretch the boundaries of all thats sensible yet fail to install a $400 or less SCATTER SHIELD.

I've pulled plenty of truck clutches that look like the first two pics and worse. The part I can't understand is how the drivers keep on driving!? No mechanical sympathy or awareness at all.
If it were my truck and that is how the clutch came out the driver would be down the road in no time.

No Idea it was in a 4WD Isuzu Truck used to trasport horses around the Station during mustering. I think it gets a bit of a flogging.

the flywheel was shot too

I'm gonna take a rough guess at what car it is.

Based on buttons near steering coloum and air vents it is a VP/VN commodore... although thats probably wrong.

Nup ... those look to be R32 Skyline button on that slant of dash.
Nout sure though ... Silvia may have had a similar setup dash in that section.

Not sure in this case, but have seen other similar cases, it is caused by too many revs.
The ring gear peels itself off the driveplate and becomes a whip or blade and basically slices everything in its path either until it flies off completly or the engine stops, as it is coming off it creats a major imbalance which can destroy the flywheel and clutch and the box smashes due to not being supported by the bellhousing anymore because it has been cut in half.

This is why in some drag classes you have to fit a SFi approved flywheel and sometime scattershield.
People have lost their feet in these type of incidents

I thought the destruction caused in those pics was because the owner decided to do a little flywheel lightening on his own and compromised its integrity, ending up with that explosion?

I wish I'd got pics of the gearbox in the bus I was driving when it finally went.

Knowing first had already imploded, they were keeping it in the yard as a spare just in case, and while on a job in my own bus I lost the alternator belt, so they brought it out for me to swap and finish the job.
Was on Canterbury Road when second gear lunched itself, then nursed it in third down Kingsgrove Road to Homer St - 250m from the depot, and all downhill - when I had to stop at the lights.

3.30pm on a school day, in the centre lane, parts of the other gears jammed themselves into any available space, leaving me unable to move the gearstick at all, and with lots of unhappy drivers yelling abuse at me.
I felt bad for breaking two buses in the same day, but neither of them was actually through any fault of my own. I happened to be the one driving them at the time they gave up.

Cast iron flywheels and high rpms are a dangerous mix.

Seems today's boy racers have forgotten lessons learned years ago.

YES including cast pressure plates..

Keep in mind some of the early clutches where full of asbestos so be careful...
