AU Falcon Futura 6cyl. 4sp auto
....when I'm turning the steering wheel when the car is not moving (tight spaces etc.) , the steering vibrates sometines as it is rubbing on something. If I slightly increase the rpm it is gone. It also does it when I am going very slowly arround tight corners (parking spaces in shopping malls etc.) If I go faster its all good. Does it have anything to do with the allignment or is it more likely the steering rack ? My first thought was that there is air in the pressure lines of the power steering system because it slightly vibrates / pulsates when you turn it at low speed... weirdly...it doesn't do it all the time....just randomly... My mechanic said the steering rack is slightly leaking but I don't think thats the reason for it... what do you guys think? Has anybody had similar issues ? Cheers The Moose |

your not taking it to a full lock are you, becuase it will vibrate when u full lock it

sounds like your rack needs bleeding. It's a common problem with AUs', my missus' wagon does the same thing. I've tried getting the air out but it's bloody hard getting it flushed so I just gave up and live with it now.

sounds like a hydraulic problem, low on oil? correct oil grade?

thanks for the replies... yes, it is on the correct level and it is the correct fluid. @FRD906 no, not full lock...just on low speed when manouvering in tight spots or parking lots. It might be time for a new rack ... CR** !! |

Standard size tyres or wider?
Sounds like it just doesn't like being strained too much and trying to turn whilst stopped, or going very slow, is making life hard for the system.

You probably have air in the system ... you will need to try and bleed it out.
Best way I have found is if you can find a place to do figure-8's (ie: empty carpark) ... and keep doing it (try not to hit the end of lock either) ... this will help a bit and alleviate the shudder at slow speed.
