Crazy month for Corolla!

Holden Cruze is going to be a BIG seller once they get the hatch, wagon, sports versions, local production and turbo 1.4 here.

Holden this, Holden that. Wagon and sport versions are rumours at the moment and local production is not going to offer the same sort of price incentives that low cost production in Korean can - not without loosing some blood somewhere else on the balance sheet.

Three words: Made in Australia.

Cruze will be seen as more Aussie than Thai built Focus and Corolla.

That is a lot of Corollas, was not aware of the finance promotion. Very clever move by Toyota.

And I still don't know how Holden plan to make money from Cruze...............?

They will make money, labor assembly costs of cars is only about 10-15% of total manufacturing costs.
Most of those start up and tooling costs are covered by Korean and USA manufacturing.

So no stamping in Australia? How is it Australian made if it is only Australian assembled?

All buyers will hear is that Cruze is built in Australia and has a Holden badge,
that's all that matters to most people who buy Holdens.

Yep, and about 250-300 of those Falcon sales were new FPV V8s.

it feels like Ford will wait until Falcon falls out of the top ten before declaring its hand,
that doesn't mean Falcon sales will fall further, more like other vehicles becoming more popular.
Sales numbers are important to falcon but so too is product mix and without knowing how that will change,
we're really only guessing. It still doesn't look good.....

better advertiseing/higher discounting would be my guess, do they make the same profit margins though?

We talked about this in a thread not so long ago, Holden sells
more Omegas but it also sells a lot more high series/V8 cars too.

So in essence, Holden is outflanking Ford at both ends of the market.
It will be interesting to see the respective company profits for 2010,
I think both of them will turn in much better performances.

as usual on aff, there is an overwhelming obsession with sales numbers. Oh no, falcon is down to 6th. Apparently, not only do people want falcon to win its own class its meant to compete with small, medium and commercial cars too. People looking at corollas won't even be thinking of falcon. Same goes for hilux, mazda 3 and cruze.

Lower sales numbers mean more down days for line employees at Broadmeadows.
it must be embarrassing for Ford officials that the Falcon is selling so poorly in this its
50th Anniversary year, I'm sure that the brass were expecting a much bigger buyer response.

Lots of assumptions there. Many of these discussions are just guesswork. often those who are the most vocal are those who think winning the arguements down at the pub is important.

One reason is because you get idiots that downtrod the falcon and believe that "Commodores are King" etc, and others believe this hype. Also the way Ford Australia are advertising at the moment is really average at best. The FG is an awesome car, but the current ads wouldn't make me want to buy one. The best ad Ford did advertising the falcon was when they brought out the BA range in 2002.

It's much simpler than that, a lot of people do not consider Ford products because the
competition is much better these days days and the smorgasboard of products to
chose from is quite comprehensive for a country the size of Australia,
nearly every European, American and Asian manufacturer cars are here.

That Falcon number is very bad, especially considering the backlog of FPV V8 sales that would be included in that number... Problem is, with LiLPG, I4 EB & XR8 over 8-9 months away things won’t get any better anytime soon... I'm guessing when the new Territory comes out, it will be Fords best selling car month in, month out... God hopes they are at least still making money on these numbers??

Not having any LPG cars to sell is taking away a massive chunk of Falcon sales. Simple as that.

December, January and February will be shockers. Down days a plenty.
