Default Indian Microsoft phone scam

Has anyone else had a phone call from India pretending to be from Microsoft? And,more importantly, has anyone been dumb enough to give them remote access to their computer like my 12 year old daughter did?
They got no money out of me once I realised what was going on but they did have remote access to the computer for about 20 minutes.I cancelled my internet banking immediately but what other potential danger is there?

Apologies if it's a dumb question but could they somehow access my computer at a later date or only on the actual occasion my daughter let them in?

they can still access it with ease..

when they're "fixing" the computer, they're putting an app on there that records what buttons are typed.. its a keylogger, and it records everything, including passwords.. then they just access it remotely, go into your bank accounts and transfer every cent..

Thats sort of what I was afraid of.I cancelled the internet banking immediately and won't use it again on this computer.I have also spoken to McAfee and checked for viruses and trojans.Would re-formatting the computer fix problem?

A format will remove the software they have planted. It won't stop them from using what they already have on you. If you believe you have been hacked change all passwords ASAP for financial transactions to then make the stuff they already have useless.

Apparently 'microsoft' rang us months ago and told us we had problems. My mum believed them. She reckons they didn't tell her to go to a website and download stuff anyway.
Still I won't type stuff into that computer. My current computer is on the same network, it cannot be also affect can it?

Last time this crap went on, every time the CLI said "International" or "Withheld" I just answered the phone "Australian Federal Bureau of Investigation, Internet Fraud Squad, How may I direct your call?"

Rude buggers just hung up on me......

I have had them a couple of times now and the latest was on Tuesday. I let them go on for a couple of minutes about what was the problem and I played super dumb until he wanted to know what windows operating system I was using. I told him I was using an apple and he started to laugh and then his supervisor came on and asked me the same question and I replied an apple and then they both started laughing together. I said if they knew what they were doing then they would know what an apple mac was, in which we all started laughing and then they hung up!

We have had them also and I gave them a short shift - yes, we all laugh but people are getting caught. I have an older friend who has paid them $300 and given them remote access to her computer (despite knowing what Russell does!) and can no longer use her computer. Russell is currently sorting it but it is a mess.

Not so funny and frankly these sort of people should be dealt with as the unsuspecting will keep getting caught.

We haven't had these guys ring, but at work all the time people call wanting our email address for their advertising lists. They cannot comprehend that we really do not actually have a computer in the office.

Nevermind that I'm sitting in said office now, on the company laptop.
No one else here knows how to use one, so it's a paperweight as far as they are concerned.

At least that means that no one here, nor either of my parents will get sucked in by them, and I have 24hr IT support in the form of Fairmont99.

Well, go on, post them up. Then we can all call them saying "My word processor is broken can you fix it?"

Anyone said to them that they only have a typewriter yet? Can they help with changing the ribbon as it's getting a bit light now when typing?
How about, I'm running Lynx on a DEC to access the internet, can you upgrade me to Windows ME?

Let's come up with some really obscure computer systems that we can say we're running.
