Default 20th anniversary return of V8 engines

In a few months it will be 20 years since a V8 engine was again offered for Falcons (from EB model). Anybody on AFF willing to do something to commemorate this milestone? It is interesting to note that this continuous run is longer than the glory years of 1966-1982. I am interested to know how many V8s have been built in the last 20 years.

Ford Performance Vehicles still do, thats close enough for me.

Never really realised either that the current spell of Falcon V8's has been longer than the original. You'd never guess with the hero trends of the first breed and the doom and gloom of the latest.

XR8 was originally a Tickford model not a standard Falcon wasn't it?

Technically no, the EB XR8 wasn't touched by Tickford unlike the XR6.

Surely you are not saying the I6 was a performance model but the V8 wasn't......

That is correct, the first EB XR8's where not a Tickford model, they where a Ford model.

Oh my goodness, lighten up guys!

It is a cause for celebration. When the EB came out with a V8 i was a silly 11 year old kid crazy about them.

In 2011 We can still go to a dealer and get a Ford V8.

Actually there are still plenty of unsold new XR8s about.

Maybe this is a clue to why they were discontinued.....

I had a manual EA Fairmont Ghia. It seems that Ford has gradually tightened up of the variations available.
I suspect this is a combination of tighter ADRs and attempting to keep prices as low as possible. Combinations that sold very small numbers became unprofitable so were excluded.

It really comes down to money every time.....

I can't believe the rubbish about FPV isn't Ford etc...

Um - who makes and assembles the actual car (not the driveline)??

FPV and Ford are one and the same... and without Ford - you have no FPV... (though interestingly - without FPV - you still have Ford)

Do they operate under different ABN's? Who is the majority shareholder of FPV?

You mean like Bigpond and Telstra operate under different ABNs?

Or like one of the 3144 registered ACNs and ABNs containing FORD in Australia?

they have different ABN's and ACN's but that is kinda to be expected if they are registered as seperate entities

both are registered in the same postcode

Does that mean without FPV you would not have V8 option either??? I think that this is the point that many are trying to make or at least that's what it seems to me!

Also I might add that there were never ever any 5.0L GLis sold with manuals in the EB-AU series. A few EB1 Ghias were sold with manuals but it was basically one of the very few mechanical differences that made the XR8 unique from the rest of the range.
