good news for the broadmedows plant i assume... but is that suggesting the duratech v6 will replace it when the fg series gets replaced around 2016?
also curious.. will the fg II feature a more refined barra with higher peak power, torque and better economy or will it run the current 195 setup? does any have any info to shed some light on this, has ford released any statements yet or will we have to wait till october? |

Ford can confirm the I-6 until 2016 but getting people to buy it is another thing.
With rising fuel costs that formerly impressive 9.9 l/100 km now looks very ordinary. 8 l/100 km is the new efficiency target, Falcon will get there is with Ecoboost or better still, heavily promote the virtues of EcoLPI and the power of a big six that costs a pittance to run. It's such shame that private buyers don't like buying factory LPG, that's the perfect answer So let's Hope EcoLPI changes that short sighted consumer view.... |

Edit: I originally said a $50 voucher but maybe it won't need $50 to fill an EcoLPI, lol. And maybe bring back a new version of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4T_IhTviZo Last edited by Dr Smith; 12-05-2011 at 05:44 PM. |

Follow it up with a billboard of a LPG Falcon towing a car trailer with one of the cars that ran out of fuel. Ideally a smaller car like a Mazda 3 or Corolla. Dan |

EcoLPI, Ecoboost I-4 and V6 diesel should all be part of Falcon's strategy going forward... I believe the V6 diesel option in Territory is about $3,000, imagine a 6.5-7.0 l/100 km Falcon... |

It would be good if they could get the I6 into another vehicle. Obviously that aircraft tug proposal out of China came to nothing.

It's a real shame there won't be a LPG Territory or wagon featuring this new Tech with fuel and diesel costs heading north at the moment..

Disappointing if it goes until 2016 without any upgrades. Market suicide; with dwindling market share, the engine will get less and less relevant if it remains in it's current format. Holden will upgrade the Alloytec and Toyota will no doubt have a DI version of the 2GR in the imminent Aurion/Camry.
What wouldn't hurt is a few revisions like Direct Injection and Stop-Start, electric water pump and maybe a shorter stroke version .Otherwise it will succumb to the law of diminishing returns and it won't sell enough to see 2016. Surely this would make for an ideal engine in top-line Ranger,no? I'm sure some within Ford Oz had a passing thought while they were involved with T6... I wonder if a delete option 2.0 GDi (Ecoboost sans turbo) version would increase market share ; obviously market positioning is less than ideal at the moment why not exploreevery option!? |

Try ringing them and asking if they actually have any LPG at the moment. All that site says is that they have a pump NOT that they have LPG in stock. LPG is a pain as it requires special transport and if sales are not high it is much cheaper to wait until a truck is coming rather than get a top up. Often some are out for weeks at a time. This is not such a problem with povvo dual-fuel conversions but a major oops with dedicated systems. It is hard enough to find 95ron out west let alone "city-boy fuel". |

By the way Broken Hill has 6 outlets selling LPG. As well as Menindee and Wilcannia. Mt Isa has 3 outlets selling LPG. As well as 2 in Cloncurry, 1 in Camooweal, 1 in McKinlay and 1 at Four Ways. Edit: Beaten to the punch. Availability is not an issue. |

Dare I stick my head up and say that a twin turbo four cylinder diesel would be perfectly adequate for maybe 75% of ordinary car buyers?

Good thing I had filled ... and I was loaded coming back ... Wagga to Campbellown is about 410km ... the area that had no LPG was a stretch of about 260km .... I was close to needing to be topped up when I got to Campbelltown (due to load and drag on the highway with what i was carrying). This is the only main drawback to running LPG ... as supply is not always available ... and this being on a major highway going to the major 24 hour truck stops as well (expecting to be able to access LPG no problems).

I love inline six cylinder engines. The engine in our G6E us amazing. But I also realise that it's days are...or probably should...be numbered.
Unless there's a bigger market than just Australia, we'll keep getting stuck with expensive cars that don't meet world standards. Ford is a massive world wide industry, and they've got access to a lot of interesting engines. Might it not have been a good idea to consider something different instead of putting development dollars into an old engine? |
