Looking for opinions on the better sounding v8 out of the efi 5.0 Windsor v8s or 5.4 boss v8
I own both and just can't decide which sounds better. I have full exhaust and cai on both cars. The Windsor has that bassy v8 note, a deep sound and a little old school about it. The boss with the unmistakable howl and scream as it revs hard over 6000rpm What are the opinions of which sound better from your experience. Does anyone think the holden efi 5.0 or Chevy ls1/2/3 sound better than boss or Windsor. |

Do you start threads to insight an arguement? Windsor is the best sounding V8 bar none.

Nah no can of worms at all Dallas. No doubt about it the windsor wins hands down, and for all the boss owners who are gunna pop up and say other wise just accept the fact that your motors are nothing more than boat anchors.

i have owned both, and like the sound of the boss when you step on it
but the windsor is old school cool depends on exhaust though, i sold the boss and brought a windsor so i will say windsor, i didnt really like the fact i had to rev the boss over 5000rpm to know i wasn't driving a taxi. |

3V sounds the best!!!!
Sorry had to. Between Windsor and Boss; Windsor. I dont mind the sound of the current crop of 6.0L and 6.2L chevs either. There are some nice sounding VE HSVs getting around.

But really, that's of topic though.........isn't it? Honestly, it doesn't matter what I think as I think this thread is useless and can only end in disaster. |

I love the sound of a boss 5.4. Irecently drove a 302kw version with CAI and full exhaust, Just wonderful. And the new Herrod cammed versions - wow.
I own and love my Windsor powered TS50 as I did my 289 & 351w powered Fairlane's. Old school cool. But the right answer is Quote:
As for GM engines... Old small block Chev & 253/308/304 Holden engines sound way better than any LS engine. They changed the firing order and lost that V8 burble. (the Ford Coyote 5.0 has suffered the same fate) They still sound good - just not as good.

385 Series.
But out of those 2, the Wheezer wins hands down. |

all the cams and valves of the boss, is really smaller engine technology when small capacity needs to rev to make power just doesn't make much sense on a v8, a twin cam multi valve 4cyl has to rev so stick 2 engines together and it still has to rev, its cool technology but not old school grunt v8s that everyone is used to.

Cadillacs Northstar 32 is a nice sounding motor in a rumbly Louie Armstrong kind of way. On startup and idle it has a definite V8 note (more pronounced than a boss engine) without sounding intrusive yet when you get up it, it sings like a multi-cam V8 should.

Just putting it out there but personally toyota's 1uz-fe at WOT sounds brilliant (with the right exhaust).
But out of those two I like the sound of the Windsor better |

Windsor all the way. Even if they aren't the best performers.

Both boss and Windsor sound great. I'm just looking for personal preferences, not looking to incite a riot. I own both and don't know which sounds better

Out of the two I say windsor but as has been said cleveland sound best. I guess you just gotta have pushrods opening up them valves for that REAL V8 music.

LS1/2/3 motors for me,600thou lift roller cam and twin 3" exhausts ftmfw.
Pushrod all the way. Have no real opinion on the Ford V8 motors tbh, aaaar, maybe the idle of the cammed Windsor gets it over the BOSS actually. |

I perfer the Clevo over the Boss or an LS1.
I've got the LS1 and it's a real "supercar" note from factory, or with straight through pipes. You need to do a full exhaust to get it sounding nice, coupled with some quality mufflers and even a resi.... unless you like the horrible 'rasp' they seem to bark without them |

I've owned all of the engines including the GM ones mentioned in the OP. They all sound good with a bit of work. My old ED V8 sounded good as did my BA XR8 as did my VY SV8 as did the old VR Statesman. They all sounded different.
Hulk, why ask this question when it has already been asked on these forums before? Surely, you would have searched the forums already before beginning this topic?

I reckon the old Holden 5 litre can sound really almost silky with the right exhaust - rubbish engine of course but I couldn't get my Windsor to sound quite like that.
Saying that, the Windsor sounded super old school tough from about 2000-4000, after which it got a bit thrashy. |
