You might have thought it was pretty cool at the time or just didn't have the cash to buy a better car, what what is the most embarrassing car you have owned? How did you redeem yourself?

2001 Toyota Avalon... Just split up from the missus and needed a car to go and see the young bloke. Basically cheap and quick purchase, but made you feel 70 years old driving it...

I've never been embarrassed by any of my cars but there have been 2 that were criticised by other people.
1. My XC sedan when I was on my Ps because it was absolutley gutless. 4.1 on gas that performed more like a 3.3 on its last legs. 2. My EA; criticised by people whom I told I owned one long after I owned it purely because it was an EA. Anybody who ever rode in it, drove it, or even just saw it when I actually owned it praised it. I mean I even had German relatives praise it's condition and comfort and they owned BMWs and Mercs back home. I thought it was great personally.

People called it a hairdressors car and noone on the street gave it much cred. The mid range on that thing would make a e3 gts look like a limp wristed pansy but I could never shake the hairdressors car and the oxford st jibes so I sold it. I also had the xr6t at the time and used to say I was driving the mrs car. Im back in a v8 now (2 v8s actually) so im no hairdressor no more |

4cyl LC torana as my first car. Complete with price engineering alloy drop tank, XU1 seats, XU1 dash, 12" stock rims with chrome trims, standard ride height, skull gear knob, home HO white paint job, and home tint job. Thought it was cool at the time but it really wasn't. Would have been cool if I had dropped a chev or rotary in as planned. Learnt lots getting my hands dirty on that car. So it was good even though it did look like a POS.

VK commodore, loved it to pieces until it blew up on the highway, however to others it would have looked like "one for the scrap heap".
Steel wheels all round, mismatching front quater panel, window winders fell off, carbie flooded when you floored it, rust in the doors, leaked oil.... but I loved her anyway It was a tad embarassing though as I knew it was on its last legs. |

My first car would be up there, which was a 1969 HB "Brahbam"Torana. Had a mind boggling 79hp.
Paid a princely sum of $275 for it in 1976 when I got my licence. But the most embarrassing would be A Chrysler VIP with a 318. Always had my hand in my pocket getting it repaired. |

Those two cars could also equally be mentioned in a thread titled: "Cars I had when I was younger and really should have kept but was too silly and sold them, because now they'd be worth a lot of damn money"... I think more than one of us could also contribute to a thread like that... |

It wasn't my car but my sisters, and she used to get me to drive whenever we went anywhere in it. Datsun 200B station wagon in that datsun cream colour. It came from the factory fully optioned with rust, additional rust and just when you'd spent 3 days cutting out the rust, you'd find more rust. Between the rust and the 4 speed manual it was truly a piece of unedifying garbage.
Why would I be seen dead in it? Well, it was usually only when I'd just finished detailing my first LTD ('tis when the love of ford started), and I'd want it to stay clean for atleast a couple of hours before taking it out. Besides, whom of you took the ford they loved to the Woolworths car park?

1948 Morris Minor convertable in 1971. $25 - which was about $24 too much. Didnt stop well, but then it didnt go fast - 800 cc side valve engine. Upgraded afterwards to a 1961 1200 VW beetle. Far better car.

Back in my late teens, I had a pink 105E Anglia, I sign wrote his name on the back of the boot... "Floyd". It had a 1600 Cortina motor and went really well, the chicks loved it too.

I see your barina and raise you a 1985 Camira.
No, not the fuel injected one, the 1.6 4spd povo pack sold mainly to government departments.

GOLD.... I suppose while i'm here i should put my hand up and mention the 1976 RT104 Corona i once owned. Was about 15 years ago, only paid $400, drove it from Brissy to Darwin, then sold it for similar money. So not to bad for approx 1 month ownership & served a usefull purpose. At least it was old school rear wheel drive jap crap - but still looked pretty ordinary with it's paint brush patched dog d!k red paint work, Still had my XK in the shed though...... |

Yes, i think we all know that feeling hey mate..... Also in regards to the old datto 120 WHY.... Brother had one as a cheap run around & parts pick up car when his XA Hardtop was off the road. Clutch didn't like it when i put it into 1st at 100klms/hr =lol. (shattered it to bits ). We also had another one as a paddock basher at my mates block. CIG welded diff & solid steel engine mounts etc. Took plenty of abuse before we blew the rings outta the exhaust, lol..... Gotta say though that the 4 speed box in those little dattos is designed for the flat change - speacially 2nd to 3rd... we used to call it the japanese top loader ! Still no where near as bad as the horrible front wheel drive camira that the others win the award for admitting to owning, |
