Default Some opinions on car purchases please.

So,

Having recently got a new rather high paying job after the last 2 years being a bit of a struggle just to hang on finacially I want to spend some money.

the trouble is im the kind of guy who likes to think up hair brain schemes alot and now that I have the money behind it I'm at a bit of a loss.

So help me with my choices.

please bare in mind:

1. Uniqueness (that something different)

2. Coolness

3. Practicallity

4. long term (repairs, rust, value etc)

Budget is around 20k if purchasing an FG / FPV

on xseries and supercharging options around 15k

Which is why you shouldnt have sold your F6 Gecko because now I could come and get it :(

Sorry mate, not at $20k you wouldn't. You could have our Mini Cooper S with JCW tuning kit if you want, available in the next few months. Great little gocart, will out corner any stock FPV and the best fun you can have on public roads with your clothes on.

On a serious note, is this toy something you will use every day? Are you keeping the XR8?

20k plus sold XR8 equals FPV or FG turbo.

if i get an x series ill keep the XR8 if i get the fpv or FG then no i wont.

think 20k change over so if I sell or trade the xr8 that puts it up to around 32-35

Hmmm the question I have here is what would you sit in and think to yourself 'this is awesome!' or what would you step out of your house everyday and look at and think 'man that car is awesome' don't worry about what other people think, drive a few you will fall for one, I still smile everytime I drive my au xr8 or look at my fd ltd regardless of what everyone else thinks

If shopping at the moment I could not go past the 08 FG F6 with 30ks on it in QLD for 40k. But that's my opinion. No matter what, congrats on the job, enjoy shopping!

Go the FG XR6T! It really is a generational leap from B series to the FG's.

You should be able to get into that under budget and keep some money spare.

Mate dont wanna be rude as its your business what you do with your cash but if you have just got yourself out of financial trouble why not just keep your XR8 as is and put some coin away to build up your reserves a bit and if all is still good in a year than jump in and spoil yourself.

But hey on the other hand life is short so go the FG turbo

I love the XR8's and so many people comment on how much better the FG 8's are compared to the BA/BF 8's if you had the coin it would be hard to go past a supercharged V8. Fairly easy to get them to go very hard with some tweeks. A guy up here had a BF Turbo ute and has bought a FPV supercharged 8 and raves about how much better it is than the turbo. Each to there own though.

bigsta and Mr Hardware probably aren't saying what you want to hear but they are right in my opinion. You asked for opinions mine is save your money and see where the new job goes I think the next year or 2 will be rather interesting on the jobs front to say the least and a car loan is bad debt.

after having the wonderful v8 sound do you think you could tolerate the woosh of the the 6 banger? if i had the urge to blow money with your trade in i think if i was in your shoes(you mention practicality) i`d go something like this one, it`s not an f6 or fpv model but it`s as close to new as i can see(and still has the promise of some easy modding) + a 5 year warranty,
http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/demo/details.aspx?R=10848449&__Qpb=1&Cr=0&__Ns=pCar_Pri ceSort_Decimal|1||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Make _String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__No=0&__ N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294966463%20 4294966285%20901%20396%20415&SearchAction=N&silo=1 011&PriceTo=415&seot=1&PriceFrom=396&tsrc=allcarho me&__Nne=15&trecs=115&__sid=12F3B4A11E8D

however the decision would be wether i felt 1000 % secure in my employment in light of US economy and the possibility of us following suit......................good luck with your choice.

If you need to ask "Should I buy an X series .... " I definitely wouldn't be buying one. They are more of an emotional purchase and if you wanted one you would know ........ so cross that one off your list.

If I was in your shoes I would keep the XR8 and save the money. It's not exactly an old slow clunker, why throw money away updating?

I'm with the others, save the money. You can always buy another car in a few years time once you have some savings built up and the XR8 still isnt *that* old.

Seems like a stupid comment, I lust after an series and often weigh up weather to buy one or upgrade my current vehicle. Just because he isn't rushing out to do it right now without consideration to other factors doesn't mean he doesn't really want it, or shouldn't buy it.

Fairly sure "save the money" wasn't a poll choice.

Trust me when i say i want an X series but the choices are endless, Definatly leaning towards the Xseries at the moment

You are missing the 'use said high paying job to pay off current car quicker' option. Then once it's paid for you are free to get whatever you want - and not owe a cent.
