Default New Ford Mondeo revealed

Quote:
New Ford Mondeo revealed
We reveal the dramatic new look of the next Ford Mondeo, set to feature a hi-tech cabin and efficient engines.

Ford is gearing up to unveil the most desirable Mondeo ever. With a look inspired by the stylish four-door Evos concept car, plus a host of
hi-tech kit, the saloon will hope to shift its everyday image.

Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2012, the car will hit the road next summer.

Our exclusive illustrations – based on insider information
and recent spy shots – show the Mondeo gets the latest Kinetic 2 design language.

This includes the large, inverted trapezoidal grille from the Fiesta, Focus and C-MAX, yet more pronounced and mounted higher up. Another key feature is the narrow headlights.

But the look is about much more than simply the blue oval’s family face. Two boldly defined feature lines adorn the sides, while bulging rear wheelarches and a steeply raked roofline reveal the car’s sporty intentions.

It’s not only the looks that
will be inspired by the Evos;
the Mondeo will also lift its
powertrain from the concept. The range-extending 2.0-litre petrol engine and electric motors won’t be offered from launch, but will follow. This will allow for an electric-only range of around 50 miles and about 500 miles between fill-ups.

More conventional engines will make up the rest of the range, including Ford’s 1.6
and 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol turbos. In the current car,
the latter produces 200bhp and returns 36mpg economy, while the 1.6 – as found in the C-MAX
– will offer 150bhp and 180bhp outputs. Also available will be a range of diesel models, including a 112bhp 1.6-litre TDCi and a 2.0 TDCi with 137bhp or 163bhp.

Even the traditional engines will be among the most efficient on the road thanks to eco
tweaks currently used in
the latest models, such as the
Focus. These include stop-start, brake energy regeneration and active aerodynamics that close the grille at high speeds to improve fuel efficiency.

Under the skin will be a
modified version of the current Mondeo’s front-wheel-drive
chassis, which will include
torque vectoring for the first time.
This helps to shuffle power between the front wheels in
corners to prevent understeer.

Inside, the impressive fit
and finish and high-quality
materials used in recent Fords will help the Mondeo bridge
the gap to more expensive
rivals from Audi and BMW. A range of hi-tech gadgets will make the newcomer one
of the most advanced models
on the road.

This includes the SYNC entertainment system, which can play audio, read text messages and deal with voice commands through wirelessly connected smartphones. In addition, the Mondeo will get features such as lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and parking assistance.

I agree, the final design will look a bit different again. No doubt there will more renderings of it in the future, however they'll be closer to the real thing.

just combining these 2 pics from jpd80 into the 1 post. obviously one is a real car and one an artist impression, but if neither of them had badges, you swear they were from the same stable.

as for the miniature ferrari, its a fiat abath. same as aston putting their badge on the toyota iq. it allows the company to claim a lower fuel rating for the brand without having to go all economical on their main cars. its the only reason they do it.

Yeah, that was kinda the point I was making.
What if Post 2015 Falcon used the same top hats as Mondeo sedan, hatch and stationwagon, grafted to a modified RWD floor pan.
That would make the whole progress much cheaper by combining styling elements of Fusion/Mondeo with RWD.

Something truly unique.....

thats what i was trying to say earlier "That looks horn, leave the falcon chassis and an inline 6 with a rturbo in it and put that on top. Sex on wheels."

Except I gave it some performance.. I like the way you think.

I'd re-mortgage the house and sleep outside my local dealer for a month.

God if that translates then that would be awesome. I LOVE the kinetic 2 design.

Imagine the Falcon with a full blown kinetic 2 work over!

It would be great but i doubt it would ever happen. They always seem to tone down the styling for Falcon unfortunately.

I will go against the grain and admit that I do not like the back end. It looks very Jaguarish?

I don't like it.

From a practical point of view, that sloping rear end would probably mean a smaller boot. They should at least do a rear end re-design and raise that bootlid back to what it is on the current model.

From side on, the new model looks brilliant. But its front and rear ends are a let down, in my opinion.

Taking a cheapish car and being compared to (in looks) a +$100,000 car is a bad thing????

Astons and Jags are some of, if not the best looking cars on sale today.

Backs up what J Mays was saying a week or 2 ago about the future styling of Fords sedans to have lower profile, fastback style roofs.

Yeah, spot on. The fastback style is the way i'd love to see the next gen Falcon in 2015 to look like. Drop the traditional 3 box sedan shape and make it fastback with a hatch area. Practicality and sexy style.

I honestly cannot beleieve that anyone could possibly think that this car is not great looking!!

Ford of Europe really are the shining light in the whole Ford empire, Not the Aussies nor the yanks could ever dream of creating a solid looking thing of beauty like this. This is the sort of car that will pull ford out of average land (much in the way that the new Mazda "smiley" zoom zoom cars made Mazda "desireable")

I for one would be happy to see this car become the new falcon replacement, instead of that HIDEOUS yank tank Taurus with its boxy rear end and yee haw nascar styling that looks like the designer had an IQ of 4. More of the same from America, if Ford are serious about getting out of the Doldrums, Styling like this new mondeo is where its at.

Ford of Europe are the true winners in the Ford stable in my opinion, they create good looking and practical cars (S-Max?), as well as some cracking ford Racing and sports cars. That Mondeo is truly desireable.

I reckon the rear and sides are Audi A5.
Poor engine choices, but probably not a bad thing so it doesn't eat into Falcon sales.

Same as the picture underneath the Mondeo pictures up there.

I think these Mondeo renderings look good. But I think it's trying to hit above what the Mondeo represents... and what it's customer base choose it for.

It reminds me too much of Chevy's Malibu... how it went and came out all buff and sporty, but it's a mincey 4 pot front driver underneath a bulging muscular beast. This is the same.

I'd rather the Mondeo stay 4 cylinder than switch to V6.

A stern message to Ford Australia: Please bring this here IN MANUAL. You have the second highest selling car in the segment as it is, and you don't even bother to give us a decent range?

And I hope this thing drives like the current Mondeo. I want dynamics to match this thing's looks!
