Default Local Darwin awards are in...

And the winner is....

While driving home from bluewater (just north of Townsville) this evening I came across probably the stupidest thing I have seen on the road in a long time.

Two young males on an unregistered scooter ( no rear plate), at night, no helmuts, on the wrong side of the road, in a 100kmh zone.

I noticed the red tail light swerving from left to right while I was a fair distance away, eventually the red light stayed in the right hand lane for some time.

I can see the quotes from the families now if they had been hit by a B double
" They were wonderful kids" " always having fun" "great mates".....

Pretty funny, pretty stupid too. I was at Bluewater on Friday. The stretch of road between Townsville and Bluewater requires a fair bit of concentration.

The rest i can fully understand and agree with, done it myself, case dismissed.............

But, ride a pink pushy again, under any circumstance, and you will be looking at a custodial sentence.....

So did you pull them over and suggest that they were doing something silly?
Or report them to Police or at least threaten to so they stopped doing it?
Or maybe just watched them just in case they got into serious trouble?

Or did you just illegally operate your mobile phone while driving without due care just so you could start yet another one of these threads........

Was reported to police ... and its an incar video camera. (jumping to conclusions.. dear oh dear)
Considering its a 100kmh zone im not about to try and slow down to match their speed as its liable to casue an accident.
If someone who didnt see them came up behind me at 100kmh and then over took me they would be wiped out.

And what sort of thread are we talking about?? I havent started any threads about illegal use of mobile phones in cars.

But hey just keep showing your bias and lock the thread for no valid reason?

Photo looks like a screen shot of one of those in car recorders.

Sure I have done stupid things before. But I can proudly say I have not done something this stupid.

Hey Jim saw a doosey on university drive yesterday. I was cruising down south just out of lavarack barracks near the school and i saw a young (12 at oldest) aboriginal fella on a pit bike, cross the highway flat out, he was wearing no shirt and no helmet. I pulled over as i just missed him and he crappped himself almost as much as me. The young fella stopped as well as he saw his life flash just before him.

next minute a young white fella (about 16) on another bit bike came across the highway flat out as well (no shirt but at least a helmet) making weird hand signals at me. he got just past me and crash tackled this other young bloke and started belting the pi$$ out of him. Realising what was going on i got out my car and slowly made my way over and broke it up. Rang the cops, they came out and took the first young fella away. Anyway long story short the first young fella had broken into old mates garage and stole the pit bike, so the other one took pursuit and managed to catch him. was an interesting afternoon to say the least.

I constantly see young kids with no helmets cruising up the side of the highway flat out, i am amazed more don't get killed.

A lot of kids rode to school 30-40 years ago without helmets day after day with out incident...
If a car or a truck is gonna hit or side swipe you, a helmet won't do any good...

i`m really thinking of putting one of those carcorders on the dash, crikey it`s not just up north , we have these people with a death wish, they are all over the place,
i`m heading north on the western ring road, bugger all traffic, i`m on cruise control near the limit through a 80 k road work area, no one behind me for 2/300 metres, probably the same in front, i just past a freeway on ramp my side, a bloke in a newish white nissan sedan decides to play chicken between me and the concrete barrier.....passed me like i was standing still, must have been 12 inches between me between the concrete barrier the other side of him, if i could have gotten his no. i would have reported the sod, but he was gone to fast, bloody dipsticks fair dinkum.

.. And im sure if those two (probably) unlicensed riders on an apparently unregistered scooter were involved in an incident it would be another number to add to the motorcycle accident statistics .. Many of which I've seen don't involve actual legal motorcyclists on legally registered vehicles.

Well said...for some reason they include farm accidents and off road accidents into the "motorcycle road toll"...no one has any idea why. When Joe Average runs into his garden fence while reversing his car out of the driveway, it isn't added to the accident toll. Tragically, when a little kid is backed over in the driveway it isn't added to the road toll either. Not exactly sure why motorcycles warrent such "special treatment"...

i live at bluewater, and im not surprised.

so many kids think the roads are a racetrack for their quads / bikes.

so they realise the list of **** they can get stung for if caught??? no licence, no rego, no helmet, speeding, unroadworthy, no turn signals, no..............

if they are putting along the side of the road fine.... but no need to be knobheads where people live and on the roads.

yes you need to keep a good eye on the p plate chicks in hatchback trying to push you off the road, even if ur doing 120 they still come from nowhere... the cops out here must be locked in their cells. People are not afraid of anything on the roads here.

I found the ebay seller i bought it from, but he doesnt have any for sale.
Its probably well out of date now as its 12months old.

http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Cars-Bike...=p3911.c0.m282

He does a good range of cameras for sale however.
Some now have GPS embedding in the video, so it shows your location as it records. Be wary that when you turn the cameras off, they record over the top of any footage on the SD card. Its best to have 2 SD cards, if you have and accident/incident take the card out with the footage its recorded and pop in a new card so it doesnt get deleted accidently.

Like all objects attached to your windscreen, make sure it doesnt get in the way of your vision, and dont leave it attached when out in the sun as it can kill the camera.
