Bernard Tomic drives into trouble again in his BMW on the Gold Coast
by: Greg Stolz, Jeremy Pierce From: The Courier-Mail January 26, 2012 4:06PM Police outside Bernard Tomic's Gold Coast house. Source: The Courier-Mail TEEN tennis ace Bernard Tomic is in a tense stand-off with police at his Gold Coast home after they tried to pull him over for alleged traffic offences in his orange BMW sports car. The Wimbledon quarter-finalist and P-plater, who has a special licence allowing him to drive the high-powered car, has claimed he is the victim of police harassment after being pulled over several times while driving the distinctive vehicle. He was pulled over by police at Broadbeach earlier today with girlfriend Donay Meijer in the passenger seat. Tomic came to police attention again earlier this afternoon and he was followed home from Surfers Paradise by a siren-blaring patrol car after allegedly refusing a direction to pull over. Police have just reported Tomic has locked himself inside his house with his family and is refusing to come out, and the traffic branch is on the way. They have been accused of 'un-Australian' actions by Tomic's father John, who had an angry confrontation with officers in his driveway. Tomic was already under investigation for allegedly breaching conditions of his licence allowing him to drive the BMW only to and from training. The 19-year-old was knocked out of the Australian Open by his hero Roger Federer on Sunday night after a gutsy campaign. My comment...The Tall Poppy Syndrome is alive and well on the Gold Coast. The GC plods have it in for Tomic. Why ??? If he has done something wrong..okay..but this reeks of harassment..orange M3..ah ! thats Tomic..lets harrass him !!!

Either they are after him, which is highly possible..
or He is a spoilt rich boy that likes to show off his freeby BMW, also highly possible.. Personally without evidence to prove either way we really have no idea. |

GOLD Coast tennis sensation Bernard Tomic has been stopped and fined twice in two hours for breaching a restricted licence to drive his high-powered $150,000 BMW.
The 19-year-old was pulled over by angry officers in the Broadbeach precinct today after `showing off' his orange V8 BMW M3 through the restaurant precinct. Tomic, who is a P-Plate driver, is not allowed to drive the high powered car, but was given an exemption to drive to and from his Gold Coast training base at Queen Street in Southport. He is still to be interviewed over incidents earlier this month which include hooning complaints and breaches of his P-Plate licence. Today Tomic was pulled over in Queensland Avenue and then again in Surf Parade a short time later. He has returned to his parents home in Southport and locked himself inside. Police are seeking to interview him further. More on this story in tomorrow's Gold Coast Bulletin. http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/...ourt-news.html

How dare the police pull over a tennis super sports star. They should offer him a police escort everywhere he goes because he's a super star.
If he wasnt on his way to or from training, he's breached his special license conditions. He should be held accountable. And so what if he has money. Can't a car within p plate laws be good enough for tomic? Oh that's right, I forgot he's a tennis superstar and deserves special attention. |

How many more times is he going to whinge and cry harrassment because he was caught out breaking the special exemption he has been granted, and run to his lawyer like a spoiled brat. BMW makes plenty of P-plate suitable vehicles...some rather sporty ones as well...he doesn't have to drive a V8 M3...get the little ***** out of it, get him into something normal, and let him know in no uncertain terms that he's just some guy who plays a damn game for a living, not a national treasure... |

I don't see what the argument is here, he has a restricted licence for the vehicle and he drove the car when and where he shouldn't have been driving The police are just doing their job and regardless of who he is or thinks he is, he has broken the law which was imposed on him, he got caught and should now cop it on the chin, end of story

TOMIC CLAIMS POLICE HARASSMENT
Yahoo!7 January 26, 2012, 4:37 pm Gold Coast teenage tennis sensation Bernard Tomic has claimed a police officer wanted to ‘hit’ him after he was booked for three separate incidents while driving his bright orange BMW on the Gold Coast. Just days after his elimination from the Australian Open at the hands of Roger Federer, Tomic said he was driving around with a friend enjoying his Australia Day. “I got pulled over before for some other reason (not speeding). “(Police officers) started getting a little bit aggressive, then this police officer wanted to hit me and it was very aggressive,” said a rattled Tomic. “I don’t know what I’m doing – it’s like I’ve killed somebody.” Bernard Tomic is in trouble with law again. Tomic was somewhat in the dark as to why he was originally given a ticket, but did shed some light. “Apparently I got a ticket for changing the route – not going the right way. It wasn’t a speeding fine or anything. “They (gave) me three tickets today and one police officer feels like he wants to hit me and it’s not a good feeling. “I’m okay; it’s just very difficult with all this happening… It’s Australia Day and I’m just trying to have fun with my mate,” he said. Still on his P-plates, Tomic defended his right to be on the road. “Absolutely, I was going to visit, doing my stuff, enjoying my day and had my things on and planned. “If someone doesn’t like that and wants to stop that, I can’t do anything,” he said. Tomic, shadowed by a close friend and his father John, appeared content to share his version of events with Seven News. Just last month, Tomic claimed he was being harassed by Gold Coast police after he was caught allegedly ‘hooning’ in his $150,000 sports car.

Word on the street around here is the car is not so "mechanically standard" like his lawyers have claimed it to be either.......
Whether its true or not, I don't know. Doesn't help the whole "every modded car involves a hoon driver" image most people on this forum would experience but.

So he drove outside where he is allowed to as imposed upon him as per his licence conditions, and someone has complained he's been "hooning". Definitely deserves jail time. Mandatory 15 years without parole orta do it!

Why does he even have permission to drive this car at all?? If P platers can't drive V8's I don't care who he is the rules apply to everyone. I wonder what excuse he used "I can't afford a M3 and a 4 cylinder"
This kind of double standards **** me off.

Why is he so special to get a P plate vehicle exemption, a BMW M series car for gods sake which is "needed" to get to and from Tennis Training. Its not like he needs it for "work purposes".
So what he might be sponsored by BMW, wear a BMW T-shirt. BMW would have known he's a P plater, so maybe they should have given him one of the other expensive top end cars they make, rather than one of their quick cars. Maybe I should apply for a work purposes exemption because my Boss has a V8 Fairmont Ghia I might ocasionally have to drive, then sell my TDCI Focus, my WS Fiesta and my EL Falcon and buy a new FPV GT with the left overs and my savings and drive around Lygon Street in Melbourne. Yes, I have a bad case of sour grapes. I'm not sure of QLD P plater restrictions but I'm assuming its the same as Victoria, 4 years on P plates and no high powered 6 cylinders and no v8s. |

Another thing is he wasn't driving it to tennis practise, the two times he's been done by police he keeps crying harassment. Anyone here with HSVs/FPVs chuck on P plates for a day on your car and see how long you can go before getting pulled over. Quote:
