Three Japanese tourists found themselves in an embarrassing situation after their GPS led them to drive right into the muddy waters of Moreton Bay.

The trio were trying to get to North Stradbroke Island in Queensland yesterday when they took the wrong turn.

They travelled about 500m through mangrove mud, apparently unaware of the 15km of water separating them from their destination.

Yuzu Noda, 21, said their GPS guide "told us we could drive down there".

Our GPS once told us our destination was in the middle of a bridge, But we didn't stop in the middle of bridge and look for the building now did we.

I know GPS's can confuse you sometimes, but from the picture it looks like they tried to drive across the ocean. Shouldn't common sense kick in at some point.

Pretty funny, although the authority are just going to leave the car there I think.

Picture shows the car AFTER the tide came in... they were driving in the mud at low tide.... (which still shoulda made them think something is wrong here...)

where they went onto the flats is a narrow bit of gravel/shell and a hard surface and it was quite a way out before the ground got softer and they stated to sink and the water was a long way out.
Sure it was a bit silly but like they said when asked, In Japan it is very rare for a GPS Nav system to give wrong advice and so they follow their GPS without question. The GPS they had said they could drive to the Island and from where they were it obviously looked like they could

Besides how many of you can claim they drowned a hire car, the most anyone does is thrash it a bit, they buried theirs in a mud flat so they wiln

I have no idea how he didn't drown the engine in that one, the water was way over the bonnet. Either it had been sealed up or it was a miracle it didn't swallow a gutfull of water.

The GPS told them repeatedly to turn left - but they did not understand as the Japanese only know reft and right.
