Default Ford Australia hiring ad in GoAuto news.

If you have received or read the latest GoAuto news as I did, I came across an ad by an employment company advertising for new engineers to work on a new project. Any ideas on what the local lads are working on and could this be the "wagon" version of Ranger or something new?

Quote:
Ford Australia Product Development is the 'centre of excellence' for the Asia Pacific and Africa region, and the team that led the design and development of the all-new Ford Ranger. It leads the design and engineering of a range of new vehicles for local, regional and global markets.
Ford Australia's Digital Innovation team is a key contributor in the development of Ford global design processes - including an innovative 'concurrent engineering' approach to design and analysis. The Digital Innovation Engineering group combines CAD, CAE simulation, attribute development and system compatibility engineers into one integrated team. Working within this dynamic and growing team, you will be responsible for leading the design of new vehicle programs using virtual and analytical techniques.
The following appeared in most links to the specific positions:

Quote:
Join a select team of international Automotive experts and be involved in the design, modelling, testing and development of a new global light commercial vehicle architecture that will be used in more than 80 countries worldwide.
And if the mods don't mind here is a link to the actual jobs:

I always liked the falcon ute ads where they didn't want to get out of the car.
It was quite clever.

But most falcon ute ads have been really good, just need to see it more often.

You wish! They would have to make it look a lot better if that were the case!

yeah, i'm sure they can just rename it Ranchero

i guess it's good they are investing in the design center, even if that means they don't continue building cars here.

Long term security? Dont know.

Non existant. You get put on a contract for as long as they think they need you, till your job is done or the project is finished, whatever comes first, and then you're gone unless they have something else they might need you for.

Its been this way for a long time, at all the locals. Engineers go from company to company chasing work.

The add specifically refers to a commercial vehicle, which I don't think a Taurus or Explorer could be classified.

Why are they putting people on now for Ranger SUV? Didn't they hire a bunch of engineering people right at the end of Ranger when the first mention came about of the SUV work?

They weren't involved in the 'Fiesta SUV' (aka Territory Mini-Me) after all, as was mentioned at the Indian reveal. And Kuga seems to be an entirely European affair.

Is this something beyond Range SUV, but on the same platform, perhaps?

They are probably not far from being ready to start building prototypes/mules i'd say, before that all they would have required would have been CAD engineers and designers. Different skill set required now.

First ones will be hacked up Rangers with a wagon body replacing the tray. They are extremely crude at this point, all hand fabricated and rough as guts.

Wow, even Gover is positive in his assessment of Ford Australia hiring, plus adds in the $103 million cash injection for Territory / Falcon developments and even adds that the Territory will be displayed at Bangkok

http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and...ease_workforce

I've added my comment to the article below.
Quote:
Ford has a great range of award winning vehicles almost all of them segment leaders particularly from fuel economy, handling point of views and 5 star safety rated. Great to see Ford securing more work for Australians. Particularly well paid engineering roles. Aus designed and built Territory / Aus designed Ranger sales should continue to surge too as BHP has decreed only 5 star rated vehicles to be bought. Ruling out their previous Kluger / Hilux purchases. A win for workers and win for Australian manufacturing and engineering at the least!

A mate of mine studies mechanical/electrical engineering at USNW, always wanted to work with cars ... went to the USA years ago and never came back.

Another guy i used to know did aero engineering in the same uni, went to the usa to work on planes and never came back.

I don't personally think there is any real future in Australia for engineers related with the various manufacturing industry ...
