Morning chaps,
I am looking at getting a daily driver to take to the shops and for the missus to take to work. Her 07 Ranger has some money in it for trips away but with the Kays she does will be nudging 200ks in around a year. So we want to preserve it as much as possible so we can enjoy it and for the reason we bought and built it. So im looking at a cheap car under $3000 that can be a sh*tbox and im not really going to worry about. Preferably 4 cylinder as it might as well be cheap to rego and insure. Theres plenty of cars out there but I started to notice that for the same money as an Excel, 323 or Magna, you can get euromobiles. I have a dealer mate who sold a 2000 Saab 9-5 SE a while ago and just traded it back in to the returning customer. It has 170ks, everything works apart from one interior bulb, drives fine just the bumpers are both scuffed. Has anyone had one or had any experience as I can get this one at wholesale price which is cheap. If it lasts a year or 2 without majr faults then I will be happy.

My father had a 95 for a few years from new and it was nice & reliable. Servicing costs were high but it was a nice touring car for country interstate runs.

Just sold mine a couple of months back. As the previous poster said, thay are a very nice highway tourer, very comfortable, and economical for a big car. I ran mine on 95 and was getting around 550-600kms out of a tank around town. They can suffer from oil sludge though, regular oil changes in these are a must. Using good quality oil is essential, as is checking the service history for evidence of regular servicing. Saabs will not tolerate poor servicing. Apart from that, they are a good car, servicing costs can be very reasonable, you just need to do some ringing around some specialists.

As above, oil changes critical. Had one of these as well as a 9000 which has the same engine. With a boost control valve fitted it was able to stick with a stock SS or XR8 back in the day and remarkably good on fuel and quite spacious for what they are. Needed quality tyres that were regularly rotated with the boost I had running. From memory a fuel pump was $500 and the one piece moulded ignition unit that included coil packs was about the same price too. Might be worth the punt for one with a good service history, don't forget though with Saab being no longer that resale may be woefull and parts supply down the track may not be ideal.

Assuming you buy one in good order, you wont regret it. I have only owned a 900 Turbo, but worked on friends newer ones.
