Question Queensland Police Figures Don't Add Up????

According to Queensland police they have caught nearly 8,000 motorists for various offences.
That means they have caught 2,600 a day>111 an hour>1.85 per minute.
Doesn't seem possible ? or am I missing something.???
Driving between Gracemere and Glendale over Christmas and Boxing Day, morning, afternoon and night didn't see one speed camera, RBT or police car on the road. ???
Just curious how they come with these figures ????

1.85 per minute , HHHMMM
How many cops are there doin various traffic infringements per minute per day
Let alone how many speeding motorists can 1 camera snap doin over the limit per minute per day
1.85 adds up pritty fast id think ....

Seems fine to me. Did you take into account the speed cameras that catch people?

Just past a RBT at Norman Road near Judds Park, Norman Gardens.
They are out there but yeah, very random.

Doesn't seem too far fetched. I passed 4 mobile radars and the few fixed radars between north Brisbane and sunshine coast on one trip yesterday morning. That's just a 100 odd km of road, the whole of qld would start to stack up

Well there would probably be a few with multiple offences. An average per person might be a usefull figure to include.

Speeding there's one, unlicenced there's another, unroadworthy another, and unregistered another again. Pretty common on these police reality TV shows and even worse than that.

The other day there were approximately 15 cars parked on the side of Ipswich rd in Rocklea, the proceeds of one nights work for a booze bus. The figure does not sound inflated to me if it is a statewide figure that encompasses speed cameras and red light cameras.

I'm always amused by stories saying they caught hundreds to thousands of "speeding motorists" over a holiday break. The question I would then ask would be "How many of them were 10kph or less over the limit, and how many were truly driving idiotically at dangerous speeds...?"

Same with the bitter complaints about the point to point cameras painted over on the highway near Brisbane...the follow up question should be "How many extra accidents were there on that stretch of road after the cameras were fiddled with?"...if the answer is "none" then why are they there? Let the traffic flow...

I went through 6 speed cameras on a single run up the coast and back (100km one-way).

I'd prefer to see more police presence, more RBT's and less 'revenue raising' on my merry week of 'anti-gym'.

I would like to see an actual breakup of the figures. How many by speed camera, RBT, hand held radar, location etc. As after midnite, police presence is down on the roads..
Arnaldo, I must have driven thru Rocky at the donut break time !!!
As for painting the cameras at Burpengary, Cops reckon wouldn't make any difference ????
Camera painted over, how does it photo cars then ?????? We aren't like England, who blow, burn them etc,!!!

Question Re: Queensland Police Figures Don't Add Up????

I found statistics...
http://mypolice.qld.gov.au/blog/2012...ampaign-day-3/
Briefly :
Speed Camera : 1,177. Other speed offences : 354.
Seat Belts : 27. Mobile Phone Offences : 16. Other : 259.
BUT : 7800 RBT's performed. 67 DUI's. Which seem to be added to the total, which aren't actual offences ???????????
The statistics are interesting..as they say "you can make statistics show what you want"

I drove down to Bundaberg before Christmas, and the cops were sitting at Bernaraby pulling people over for breath and licence checks. Cars only though...semis were hammering past in great numbers while we were sitting there, one coming so close to us that I said to the copper "Watch that semi coming behind us" when I noticed it in the mirror as I sat there and he looked at my licence. I asked who was keeping an eye on all the trucks, and he just shrugged.

However, all the way to Bundy, and then driving back again a few days later, I never saw a camera trap, I never saw a cop with a radar, none. I only saw one police car on the highway, a blue Falcon highway pursuit car...other than that, nothing, which is odd given the massive increase in car numbers on the highway doing some very odd things occasionally.

You can jump out and stop a fully loaded B-Double going 100k's an hour, and expect it to stop in 100m. Ill stick with cars I think.

Remember we have a lot of unmarked cars out their as well.
Most people don't see them, like my wife, but i do.
I have a habit of looking at who is going pass.

Your orginal post was quoting the courier mail.... it was the newspaper which reported "8000" drivers caught breaking the law, not the police. The same article was reprinted in the local newspaper and even used as headlines on the local news (not the brisbane news). So it goes to show the media sometimes cant be bothered to check the facts...

Maybe next time you should check the facts before saying the media doesn't check their facts. Looks like csv8 looked at the wrong column

You aren't even referencing the correct column. That one you've quoted is for a 24hrs on the previous year as a comparison to the 24hrs on a day this year which is column 3. The figures in the article are a progressive of the last few days total which is the last column, which is near 8000, compared to column 2 for a progressive comparison to the same time last year

That would include RBT figures in those stats, otherwise it's physically impossible.

Nothing particularly visible these last few days except for an unmarked White Golf that was always using his radar out the passenger side around the Gold Coast ...
