That'd be an easy recall you'd think. Most of the vehicles sold would have been fleet and would have worn out the original tyres and be on new rubber by now so there wouldn't be anything to do.

Fair enough a recalled part may fail over time but fitting the wrong part from the factory is just unforgiveable. Ford in general has gone to the dogs and i for one will never ever get a new ford again and ive loved fords my whole life |

I've also seen many a people go into the tyre store to get new tyres & the salesman comes out, looks at the current tyres/size & goes back in to replace with like for like. The vast majority of people wouldn't know what tyres their car was "supposed" to have on. Most fleet managers don't organise everything, they just say to the driver of the vehicle, it's due for new tyres, take it here. Then the above applies, they look to see what's on there currently, or the tyre salesman does. |

The reason why us tyre monkeys generally look at the sidewall for the size fitted is because there is hundreds, if not thousands of different sizes/load rated tyres for thousands of different cars...So remembering every single one is difficult, so we just look at the tyre and go from there. IMA, everytime a new car comes out, they seem to have a different size and/or load rating, so that compounds trying to remember every single thing in that area.

I think the production line quality control check-sheet has a question along the lines:
"Does the car have tyres fitted? YES/NO" Does Ford even fit tyres at the factory or are they done by a supplier and delivered onsite? Still if this was the case you would think they would do a QC check when accepting the goods. |

i read somewhere else it was a small difference in width like about 10 mm, if that`s correct it would`nt be too hard too miss.

That is kinda eery. At my last job I had a December 2011 built XT LPI, had 2 blowouts. Seemed to drive normal, only thing I noticed was shocking rebound compression compared to petrol XT. Front and rear of car would always bob and scrape over bumps, from dampers not settling.

It appears the sequencing was out or the incorrect tyres were called up for the SIDO#. Last time I saw they did fit tyres at the plant.

Man, they have to chase up the 7 XT EcoLPI's they sold. You think they would just text each owner.......
No real biggie, just someone clicked the wrong button on a laptop. Can't see any cars hurtling off the road due to it.

so ford have only sold them in the Maitland NSW area ? I know of 6 of them in this area alone. comments like yours do nothing to build confidence in the Ford name or the falcon

It was a joke, you may need to toughen up a bit. I havent seen an XT Lpi on the road, quite a few XR6's though.

Unfortuantly its not good but it happens. Don't really see this being that big of an issue. Funny how when Ford has a recall its doom and gloom, any other manufacturer has one and they've done a god job to fix the issue.

It would then go along the tyre conveyer belt, where an arm would put the tyre on the rim.....From there, into a closed, see through chamber, where it would be pumped up to approximately 40 PSI. After that, the fore-mentioned monkey would put the rim/tyre assembley onto the balancer and wack some weights on, where some dots had been put from another machine and place it on the waiting car....His final job was to put the wheel nuts on and rattle them up with a pre-set tension on the 5 way rattle gun. As far as I am aware, this process hasn't changed in that factory. As for the wrong size being put on...Somewhere along the line, the wrong size would have been supplied or "wheeled out" and the fore-mentioned monkey would have just gone about his regular business of fitting/balancing. So he would have presumed he was supplied the correct size for the rims.

Doesn't sound too bad at all. No major issues like a fire hazard, severe safety risk (think Toyota and throttles) or a case of something falling apart. Then from a customer point of view they get a free set of brand new tyres! Win!

I had a look at the data provided to us by Ford for tyre sizes and it was from their tech guys a while back - it listed same size tyre for EcoLPi and Petrol, so probably never made it from engineering drawings to the production guys that it had to be a 225. Interestingly in the 17 inch cars it's 10mm the other way around, i.e. 235 EcoLPI vs 245 Petrol???? Strange.

Does anyone remember the Seat belt recall for the VE commodore when it was new where Holden just said 'don't use the rear seatbelts until replaced?'

just looking at car sales on their spec sheet a 2011 XT has listed the tyre as ............................. 215/60 R16 Alloy rim
can`t see a 2012 xt, but g6 and xr6 are listed as Alloy 235/50 R17 i don`t think i would trust carsales as gospel though, i reckon give the dealer a bell, they should be able to give you the good oil. |
