Default What do you persistently cart around in your boot/tray and why?

... after all we know any 'unnecessary' weight reduces fuel consumption.

What are those things that you consider to be 'boot essentials'? that you can't travel without?

And, Why are they considered essential to you?

Looked in my boot today, had to clean the car out to send it to the panel beaters.

Found a Zoo mag. I think I just threw it in there after buying it with all the other shopping.

1) An old but small suitcase ($7.00 from Op Shop) packed with emergency incidentals such as: 2x2 litres of water, jumper leads, bottle of globes, few spanners and screw drivers, rags ...

2) Complete set of new Gates cooling system hoses - ready to go on the care at time of cooling system rebuild, or for emergency in the meantime.

3) Box holding 5xlitres coolant, 5xlitres of engine oil, 1xlitre of trans oil, just in case something drops its bundle.

4) Our 'F3 Survival Pack' consisting of back pack stuffed with goodies that will get us by for a more than a few hours if stuck on the Sydney-Newcastle F3 WHEN (not if) it 'goes off' due to some accident. Includes cereals, long-life milk, biscuits, treats, dried fruits, nuts, new bottled-water, etc. It gets checked every 2-3 months and any out-of-date foods swapped for newer stuff.

5) Large first aid kit, for medical emergencies.

6) Bag of shopping bags which belong to the Missus for her next shopping trip.

7) Mandatory umbrella. Why? Because it rains Australia!

I like to carry the first aid kit, oil and water, jumpers, etc, in case some other motorist has a problem - it's good to help out.

Only thing that sits in the back of the Paj now is cooler bags for meat shopping.

There used to be a pram but the youngin is trusted to walk around the shops with Mum and Dad. Amazing how much room even a compact pram takes up.

Umbrellas sit on the second row floor.

XR6 - 5 litre coolant, cleaning gear, bags for shopping, tow bar when not fitted

BMW - 10 litre bucket of cleaning gear, car covers, 20 litre jerry can (empty), 10 litres drinking water (empty) - jerry cans are for trips, and a large back pack filled with enough First Aid gear to make an Ambulance envious (retired Paramedic)

Cheers Vincenzo

Why do you want a spare sub woofer

I have an umbrella and a first aid kit. Also in the pocket on the rear door (Prado) sunscreen, aeroguard and a bottle of the hand sanitizer gel.

Fishing gear, couple of rods, tackle etc, (stopped keeping the pilchards in there though, they tend to smell a bit after a couple of days)! Other than that just a small tool kit, & jumper leads. Pity I can't throw my kids in there when they start pushing my buttons

In my AU Ute the tub is empty but I do however have a factory Ford cabin tidy which I have tools, some knives, some cleaning rags, the factory Ford scissor jack, wheel brace and winch handle for the spare wheel. In the console I have spare fuses, a small torch, CD's and in the glovebox I have a small first aid kit, a stubby holder and the Ford glovebox books.

I have at all times; Jumper Leads, 2L bottle of water (for either drinking or other emergency), first aid kit, spare globes, damp chamois, umbrellas, spare shorts and top, 2x jackets and rags.

Because you never know what situation you're going to find yourself in.

Generally the boot essentials are an umbrella, tarp, beach towel, first aid kit and jumper leads.

The standard boot kit does however get beefed up for a road trip. Then I add in
spanner set, socket set, 3 or 4 litres of water, cutlery, tea towels, small bread board,
crackers, peanut butter, fruit, nuts, a thermos, cups, tea, UHT milk, a pillow and sleeping bag. This kit is
generally great for a roadie, and the idea is also that if I need to spend a night in the car due
to a breakdown all should be OK as far as food, water and warmth goes.

I always have a damp, sandy beach towel and a few boardies handy because you never know when you'll end up at the beach.
I should wash them though, they've been in there since October with nothing more than a shake off.

I have two allen keys, just incase the sub power cables or speaker wire pull out and I need to put them back in.

I have a socket set and some screw drivers in the glovebox as well, plus a yellow dust grabber thing.

And used to have a 5L petty can, but got sick off the banging every time I turned.

Under the horn pad a folded $50 note for emergencies (usually beer + smokes)

Cheers!
