hey guys
looking at getting a few gauges for my xr6 turbo. I've got a boost gauge and looking at getting oil pressure and temperature. People say mechanical oil pressure is more accurate, but I don't like the idea of oil in cabin. what do you guys reckon is best? |

The authorities don't like mechanical gauges either...
You don't need super-duper accurate gauges for a street car...besides, electrical gauges do good enough for OEM applications.

I just bought some Speco Oil Pressure and Oil Temp from Autobahn. (about $60 each plus parts for wiring it in)
Same, I hear Oil Pressure is best at the guage, however the electrical version sensor seems to have whats inbuilt in the guage at the sensor so as long as the signal at the guage is being shown correctly should be the same? (But the Electrical version is much heavier (200g+) I bought the Electrical oil temp rather than mechanical as I am having the probe mounted through the sump plug and its easy to take on and off (with oil drains) if its just a electical connection. Mechanical is better though, race guys at least traditionally have always used mechanical. |

mech fuel and oil pressure gauges are illegal to have in the car.
So it's up to you. In saying that, I do prefer mech over electric.

I like mechanical for Oil pressure and use electrical or everything else.

There are alot of varibles for both mechanical and electrical types, but if they are maintained well enough to keep errors from showing, then they are both just as good as each other.
But if I had to choose on what was easist to opperate at maintain, then i would choose mechanical.
