Beats me. I don't see the appeal. Most still use drum brakes.

They all have drums on the back. But so does everyone of its competitors.

Go and talk to a mechanic- pick a vehicle class and ask them what they'd recommend. It's almost always a Toyota product.

Toyota has a reputation for reliability and easy servicing not only in mechanic's circles but also with the general public and fleet buyers.

My company buys nothing but Toyota...I assume these figures get captured (commercial)? If so resources would make up for a bit of that...dont know how the hilux goes privately.

Just goes to show what reputation means though.

A mate of mine has a massive property in FNQ - he doesn't even talk in terms of buying "a car" or "a new car" -- he says "I need to buy a new toyota" or "we need two more toyotas for this season".

A mate of mine has a low spec petrol tray back hilux, its about 11 years old, he bought it brand new and it was fairly cheap.
It doesn't do any one thing particularly well, I've driven it, it's pretty bloody rank to drive actually, it's bland, it's simple, it's not overly frugal on juice, the driveline is fairly basic, but what is there is built reasonably well and it works without fuss for the purpose it was designed , knowing my old mate the way he drives it probably still has the original commercial light truck tyres still on it 11 years later.
It is easy to see the appeal of them for someone who just wants a cheap to buy no fuss vehicle that does the job.

Obviously your mate doesn't realise the ranger is not only a generation ahead in all areas to the Toyohashi...it's won ute of the year for the world and in many countries since its been released. Toyota r lucky for blind loyalty is all

Rangers could be gold plated, cost $5 and come with a free stripper to wash it evey weekend and he (and 99% of real farmers) would stil buy a Toyota.

Well, I consider myself as a 'real farmer', as that is what I do for a living & our choice of work ute is a Ford Ranger. 100,000 k's, not one single issue & will buy another in the not to distant future.
They are a good work horse.

And what if I don't want a noisy clattering diesel, but a smooth V6 petrol engine? Ranger doesn't even give me that option, Hilux does. What if I want to save money and buy a cheap 4-cylinder petrol? Hilux offers the 2.7L 4-cyl Workmate with choice of optional auto. Ranger offers a 2.5L 4-cyl, but only with manual. In short, the Hilux range is much broader.

The V6 in the Hilux is being discontinued.

Lol... The only noisey clattering diesel in the class is the Toyota... Great Wall is nearly as good in comparison.

The sales figures dont lie though... People will believe what they are lead to. Ford cant supply enough Rangers, they will never sell 5000 per month with their current allocation from Thailand.

Hilux Range is Broader?? urgh I dont think so... Does Toyota offer any Hi Rider RWD's? Does Toyota offer 3 motors? Does Toyota offer a premium model with Leather? Can you Tow 3,500 kg with a Toyota?? LOL

More to the point, why is it always in the car sales figures (=demand for passenger vehicles)? It's a truck.

Must be seriously something wrong with me, there is not 1 vechicle on that top 10 list that appeals to me. AT ALL. 11th place Ranger, not a bad result for Ford but should be better considering how good it is! Seems like a Ford Australia image problem to me.
Expected the new VF to be higher as well considering it's been available for a few weeks now. Next month will tell I guess with the new Commodore!

Perhaps, TE=GQ_Smooth;4797301]I don't believe any amount of advertising would have saved Falcon long term.[/QUOTE]

Perhaps, but no one can say Ford oz is tripping over the bags cash they are spending on advertising for the Falcon, look at the other brands in particular the ones toward the top of the seller list like hyundai, everywhere you look there's a pic of a hyundy, they have them in shopping centres, they push the products everywhere.

Isnt it amazing the sheer amount of imported cars that are brought into the country every month, last month 120,000 vehicles were sold.

Why are I30 and Elantra figures combined?
Falcon ute and sedan arnt even listed as one, yet those are?

Oh that reminds me, if you are anything taller than 5'10, you'll have fun sitting in the back of an Elantra...

Hyundais ad is clever.

Brilliant cars...brilliant value.

Sticks in you head that they are brilliant cars.

Only a cynic (like me) disbelieves it.

i30 and elantra are the same car. Have been since 2006, just seperated in figure for most of their history cos one has a boot and one is a hatch. Corollas have Wagons, hatches, sedans with the same body foward of the back wheels. Commodore sedans and wagons are the same car too.
