Forgetting the Holden vs Ford rivalry for a moment, I think this petition should be signed by every Australian who is concerned about the implications of the collapse of the automotive industry and the dire effects it will have on this nation.

If we were buying Falcons and Commodores in the same numbers as years past we wouldn't be talking about this. Unfortunately people don't know what they are missing out on! |

Actions speak louder than words or signatures for that matter. The car companies and the govt want to see new aussie made cars leaving the car lots not book loads of signatures. Signatures will not save the industry or peoples jobs in this case. Sad but true. This is not a council petition to put up signs to stop dogs &^$#@!* on the footpath. No sales , no aussie car industry....end of story.

Hi. No good signing petitions, you need to talk more people into signing cheques. Cheers MD

End of the day if theres bugger all sales no amount of signatures will save it. People need to buy Aussie made but Aussie made needs to provide the cars people are buying. But you cant force people to buy something, especially when you consider most people are happy with just a cheap, reliable car, and fact is motors aside (when you can even use the power anyway) Falcodores aren't amazing cars. A family that just wants a runaround can buy a practical car for 10-20 grand less than a basic Falcadore.

Yes.
The point is that Toyota aint struggling. Falcon is dead and commodore is on its last legs due to a misguided preference in part for a much inferior product. Loss of camry to Toyota is a much smaller hit to the local industry than losing both falcon and commodore. |

Last I read they were losing $3800 for every Camry they built, so in terms of locally built cars, yes they are struggling.

Shame the industry was unable to have the foresight to save itself.
1. Stand up to unions. 2. Move with the times. (no point building 4.0 falcons when no-one wants them.) 3. Be proactive, engage with government to ensure it buys exclusively Aust. built cars. |

Ford don't listen to their customers. No sales for a falcon wagon so they drop it. Every ******* wagon I see in my car park is a VE and usually an S or a SS. No market my ****.
Same as fairlanes and LTD's. If they specd them up and made them appeal to the younger crowd, who are cashed up looking for toys, they'd sell. Black fairlane with mirror tint and a set of 22's and leather, big engine and exhaust would be great for your local drug dealer. He'd love it. And why can they sell a BT50 near on 15 grand cheaper than the ranger? BT is the ugly step sister, but put the panels away and they're the same truck, my boss is looking for a dual cab diesel ute and Ford don't want to do anything for him. Holden offered him a Colorado with all plastics, nudge bar, tow bar, tonneau cover, sports bar, driving lights, dash mat, etc for base model price. Ford wouldn't even throw in a full tank of fuel at one dealership on a top specd one.

It would have taken less effort for many to fill a petition than half the b/s responses in this thread

really i think that the only chance of us retaining an Australian made car industry would be if the Koreans or Chinese decide to start manufacturing here but i cant see that happening.
i recon Toyota will be gone within a year from Holden /Ford closing. i believe that most of the factorys that supply the parts to build our cars supply all three brands and they are already struggling. with Ford pulling out thats already made it harder to keep going and supplying holden / toyota. i bet that had some influence on the decicion for GM to pull the plug on holden . and that will just leave toyota buying parts from these small factories. they dont sell enough camrys to keep a already battling supply chain going so the supply chain will fold up pretty quickly and leave toyota no choice except to import all its parts. i bet it will be cheaper to import whole cars then to import the parts and build the cars here. ohhh.. and yes i signed the petition anyway.

Specifically, no decision made yet (so they say), govt needs to come to the party with $. Nothing we don't already know. Only eye-opener was that new vehicles would have same local content as Cruz. |

Thats fair enough and I respect your stance on the issue, but this is not just about saving Holden, its about people's livelihoods and the implications to the nation's economy.

I would say buy an aussie made car but even if we all went out in droves and did that, it wouldn't change a thing. We all had our chance. I did years ago but haven't bought a locally made car in nearly 17 years so I suppose I am one of those who let the local industry down. But there again, I am not one that's trying to keep them going either so I am not going to lose much sleep over this.
