Pedals? I wouldn't be surprised if they date back to the XR!

Starter motor? Possibly dates we'll back too.

I think my old EF XR6 interior light had a Ford and GM part number on the inside.

Engine block really hasn't changed much..

Neither has the fuel filter..! Same one all the way through..!
From EF to FG it's the same Ryco Z373 (i think) fuel filter across the board.

Rear view mirror?
Water pump is the same too...

This was as a result of the 'Button Car Plan' which was the brain child of Senator John Button. It was designed to rationalise the vehicle building industry by sharing components and models.

I remember at the time they used the example of a multi-fit windscreen washer bottle shared between all the local manufacturers. If the figures were correct it saved a considerable amount of money.

The plan was also what prompted the model sharing system we saw with the XF/Nissan Ute; Pintara/Corsair; Camry/Apollo; Commodore/Lexcen and all those. As we now know, it didn't turn out to be real popular with the car buying public though.

Cheers,

Russ.

Fairly certain the touchscreens on the FG and VE/VF are the same.

An interesting question....

I do know that most of the above answers are wrong. Many things look the same and fit/work between models until you pull them apart and see the insides.
While answers like valve caps, screws, wheel nuts and light bulbs are probably not what you are thinking of either...

I have both cars. The starter motors are the same, as is the rear view mirror, and I'm pretty sure the dipstick is the same too.

The rear view mirror was the first item I thought of. However they did make some small changes to them in different models. Perhaps different part numbers as well.

Starter motors (6 cyl) are not the same, E series is different to BA, different to BF, FG all different.

While E to B series is all interchangeable you cant get a FG one into a B series.
You can put a B series into a FG but with modifications.

The actual RV mirror may be the same, never measured it, but early models had a hex screw, later models use a screw. Nitpicking I know but it is a difference.

Dipsticks moved to the rear of engine on FG, at the front on earlier ones.

Mirror switches are down on the door handle area on FG not up near the mirror like B series.

Coolant bottle look the same, E series had metal screw caps, then they went to plastic caps, then they dropped off the 2nd overflow hose for the FG.

Seats are pretty similar but each model had small changes, extra reinforcing, different covers and foams etc, and then when airbags came in there were many variations.

There is probably more than 1 answer to this question but...
