Ford show concept looks to build on last year’s Ka preview.
Ford has announced that it will unveil a new concept at the New Delhi motor show in India next week, likely previewing a new low-cost global model. Like all new Ford models, the concept will have been developed for multiple markets under the ‘One Ford’ umbrella, and the company describes the concept as its “vision for the future in the competitive compact-car segment in India and other emerging markets.” Teased in a single image for now, the details visible are very close to the headlight, grille and nose contours of the Ford Ka concept shown in Brazil last year. This suggests that the New Delhi concept could be a sedan version of the Ka concept, given the popularity of the compact sedan body style in developing markets like India, South America and the Asia-Pacific region. The global giant predicts that the emerging Asia-Pacific region will account for nearly a third of its global sales by 2015, which would be more than double the 15 per cent the area accounted for in 2010. Demand for vehicles in the compact car segment in India – such as Ka – is also expected to double within the next five years, growing from the 1 million units sold in 2013. Like the also-compact Ford EcoSport SUV, the production Ka is being developed in Brazil with a focus on such emerging markets. Given Ford Australia sources local EcoSport models from India, this arrangement could facilitate an Australian future for the the Ka. If possible, this would give the Blue Oval a much-needed entry into our sub-light segment to sit alongside the likes of Mitsubishi Mirage and Suzuki Alto. Ford sold the orginal version of the Ka in Australia between 1999-02, but with limited sales success before the recent boom in popularity of fuel-efficient small cars. http://www.carsguide.com.au/news-and...81660_20140129

Looking at that pic, there is a strong resemblance to the Audi A1.
The city car segment is pretty strong and will get more lucrative as parking space becomes less and petrol prices become more. There probably isn't much profit in these cars, but they will introduce young buyers to the brand, which is future money in the bank if the car is well sorted. Would have chose that over the Mirage if it were on sale now, providing it had a 5yr warranty and 1yr / 15k service interval.

It'll need an automatic transmission - one of the biggest downfall of the original KA

the original was also euro designed/built so was too expensive. The new one WILL have an auto, as this is an important feature for emerging/asian markets, and it will be cheap.....
