Default Finally an article with a ford positive.

Just flicking through today's herald sun and reading through the cars guide found a positive article relating to ford. The article is written by Paul Gover and starts with badge for badge and car for car Ford beats Holden. It then goes on to say that Holden rely on the commodore but ford has such an equal spread of quality vehicles. Its good to see the cars guide write something positive about Ford and although its coming to the end of the falcon its not all doom and gloom.

Too late now its all over......Maybe Ford should have invested more into thye're earlier products they would have had a better reputation these days and would be selling more.

Nothing to do with being too late and its not only about locally manufactured cars, if you read the article. Its Holden vs. Ford, including the situation after when local Holden design, and local manufacture of both Holden and Ford ceases. Note that local Ford design input into global projects will continue into the future.

Unfortunately I cant find it on the Herald-Sun website to copy here and is too large to type, but basically Holden is in trouble with only cars from Korea which are good, but not great. Whilst Ford has the global development program thats producing great cars and finding cost effective factories to build them, and which are so far ahead of their red lions rivals that its a non event.

VF caught up to Falcon, nothing more. I don't count the gadgets as an advance, they are gimmicks in my opinion. And I should know, I have one.

This is purely my opinion, but I don't see the local engineering and design centre lasting more than a few years past Falcon. Ford HQ is in money saving mode and this behaviour will only increase in the years to come.

One Aussie engineer or ten Chinese or Indian ones...

Interesting going by reviews the VF chassis and interior seem to be a generation ahead of the FG. I was thinking of upgrading to a VF SSV but if they are only on par with FG's I might just stick with a FG T6 of some kind, or even better maybe a FH Xr6t depending on how they look

The VF is better than the FG. Even I can see that through my rose coloured glasses. That isn't unexpected though you are comparing essentially a 2008 model car with a 2013 one. Apples need to be compared with apples. Judgement should be made when the new Falcon is released

Agree with the gimmicks (as a HSV Owner), I have turned off as many as possible. I have no idea what the half the other alarms are all about (eg: closing rear hatch on wagon, car beeps twice - guy in van going past stops, gets out and says "what the f is wrong with you?", pointed out I was at rear of wagon, and have no idea what the car was complaining about).

After previously owning BF and FG GT's, the quality of the Gen-F interior is sooooo refreshing. The crappy plastic GT interiors were shameful.

Both FPV and HSV cars are a fantastic pat on the back to our small design and engineering centres. Enjoyed them both, equally.

All of the motors available in the falcons are way ahead of anything holden has to offer, ecoboost, inline 6 ecolpi, turbo 6 and the great Miami V8.

That's a bit much isn't it.
Id say they are about lineball. its over now, GM aren't the enemy any more. (Not that they ever truly were)

Focus your hate on hot hatches and the Japanese makers.

No hate here, but saying they are about lineball BS, the base 3.0 litre motor in the commodore against the ecoboost or the standard 4.0 is not lineball LPG holden vs ECOLPi Falcon about lineball?

+1 bigwil. I work on theses cars everyday and the Ford range of engines are far superior to the Alloytec rubbish. The 3 litre is a torque less POS that is purely there for fuel economy, where in the real world it's not really any more economical than the I6. Can you imagine what the Falcon could've been with an all alloy direct injection I6...

Notice how its always the 3.0 that's singled out...
The bigger engine is quite good.

why don't you focus on the crappy ecoboosti they made 10 of, and didn't maket it at all.

Not the enemy? Try telling a Carlton supporter Collingwood aren't the enemy anymore and that they should be worried about Victorian teams beating the interstate clubs.

Players will retire while new ones are recruited, and 'the' rivalry will live on.

I don't know about that. Retuning the suspension and adding alloy control arms to the front end doesn't make it a "generational leap" in my book - because that's all the VF got over VE. Oh, and EPASS.

The chassis is, for all intents and purposes, the same core Zeta platform it was before.

Because here's the rub: FG debuted in 2008 with that fantastic virtual pivot front suspension with forged alloy A-arms, and the SZ Territory brought EPASS with it in 2011 which means it is now only a stone's throw away from going into the Falcon, given they share most of the important chassis and powertrain hardware.

For a daily the Focus puts a smile on my face. Sure it's not as big inside as the ute or as fast but it's sharp and fun and makes going to work a bit more fun on a Monday morning.

Wanting a nice rwd V8 sedan doesn't make you a dinosaur.

You know what makes you a dinosaur? The whole hatchbacks are for girls 'thing'

I would've thought a moderator would show more restraint.

Point taken
I guess what I'm trying to say is that i think the "new ford Australia " is going to be a very different company in terms of car line up in that there may be no large rear wheel drive sedan which has always been the flagship of the ford range of cars in Australia

I know people like hatches and if they want to buy one who am I to tell them otherwise.

looking at their marketing of late we see a car where I can store my high heels under the passenger seat or one where I can talk to the CD player

Is my skirt comment really that out of line ?

If the Falcon were to survive, it would have to become a true global car. Something that Ford could sell with a premium price tag. I suspect at some point (but not anytime soon), Ford will get serious about Lincoln and offer a luxury sports sedan, with an aluminium body on a RWD platform with an AWD option with 2.3, 2.7, and 3.5 EcoBoost engines. I also suspect a V8 EcoBoost at some stage because Cadillac prototypes are showing they are pursuing a 4.5L V8 GTDI engine. I honestly think that will be the evolution of the Falcon.

I hope you are right
At the moment the way things are shaping up here I feel like ford are going after Mazda's and Hyundai's market share
Obviously it's about selling cars and not pleasing dinosaurs like me hence their marketing strategy

Apprently the ecoboost is not crappy at all though and is actually quite a pearler of a thing.

The Falcon I6 engine is the pearler, minimal oil use, economical, normally nothing goes wrong, whereas both Holden V6 engines I've heard of horror stories, including oil consumption problems on some that have carried into the VF's.

Why is it as soon as factually comments about the ford line up being better the the Holden line up, always end with noobs bringing up TOTALLY irrelevant topics such as rust...or sales volume....or marketing...or weather THEY would by one

All those irrelevant topics asside it's been true for a very very long time. With the exception of the highly competitive pre vf hsv and hsv cars, ford has had at least equal to far far better at best models in every class. And it's not going to change.
Falcon
Ecolpi
ECOBOOST
Xr6t (from memory even xr8ute won pcoty one year bf2 I think)wow
G6et
Ranger
Fiesta
Focus
Mondeo
And now the Mustang is taking over the world along with the world dominating F truck series that hopeful well get here one day.

GM/Holden has
Korean rebadges(that's a bit of a low hit but hey)

It's only one example but my bro has a bunnings company car, a last of the ve2s before vf.a wagon. He said they fell for the whole new Eco engine thing Holden was pushing but in the real world they're far from economic. He gets very similiar economy in his jeep unlimited on the same runs. It's falling apart and he looks after it. He wouldn't even 'show me what it's got' when I asked the rear loading is very overstated and the gearbox is like something from the nineties......soooo slow.
So they're of to mondeo/falcon or most likely Ranger soon.

Engines aren't falcons weak points, its the poor quality seats, the seating adjust-ability, and there ability to rust in the boot that is the kicker. Hope the last falcon at least fixes a couple of these problems.
