Hi
I quit ciggies 2 weeks ago and miss smoking. My mrs will let me smoke 1 cigar a week with my rum on Saturdays as a compromise. I went to a local bottle shop and bought a Romeo y julieta no 1. I might as well have picked up an old dry stick and smoked that. Dry harsh piece of crap. Tried again with a macuando court cafe. Wasn't bad. Tasted like pipe tobacco. Very pure and simple with no flavours beyond tobacco. Went to dan murphys and bought a tatiana rum. Holy ****, amazing cigar. Couldn't believe I got such good quality from a bottle shop. About to order from an online cigar store and am looking for some recommendations. Cheers |

Couldn't agree more! Cohibas FTW. BUT I love R&J's too- if you're getting into cigars, get yourself a humidor to store them in. Just need to keep them right- you must have got a dud with the R&J man, they're awesome- my personal go to cigar

Yeah, probably was a dud. Was very dry. I might try one again once i buy a humidor.
Decided to work my way through the cigar aficionado top 10. Starting out with a monte cristo no.2, cohiba behike 54 and aging room quattro F55 concerto. Starting to feel all cultured and **** :P |

Montecristo is another good brand, reliable quality. Good everyday day cigar, if you've only having one a week I would stick with the Cohibas.

I liked Gran Corona's but not really sure where they sit compared to others, can always get blunt wraps and roll your own too. Heaps of different flavors.
Rum and cigars are the go though, made for each other.

Agree awesome cigars. Handed them out at the hospital when my kids were born and nowadays will have one on a special occasion. Love them with a bottle of port. Don't forget to store them properly.
Is it true that Cuban cigars a rolled on the thighs of virgins......ha ahah : |

theyre not badly priced, packaged well and pretty quick with shipping The only thing that actually does annoy me is the plain packaging. But it's more annoying than a deterrent. I came across two actual boxes (2x50) of genuine R&J's in proper tubes with the proper printed rings etc which I have done my best to keep some of so that I can repackage in my humidor. I just buy plain packaged ones (because thats all we can get), put the little collars/ring back on them and retube them. Most of the time I can't be bothered though, and I've gradually got less and less of them! lol Cigars are like wine (I'm told) in that you will try and find one you like, the Cohibas are a bloody good place to start though. When I was on holiday I was frequenting Davidoff (who I thought just made mens cologne?) who have a chain of cigar stores (not sure if theyre online) but they were cheap as in the US. Get yourself a humidor, a good trimmer and a proper lighter, my advice- I picked up some Akar (?) accessories over there which are pretty damn good too...

If you are going off the list by cigar aficionado, try the Davidoff Nicaragua, not strictly a Cuban but very nice. Had one o/s last year, good with a whisky.

Quick question
With australias stupid green packaging laws, is it possible to buy this box in australia? Or is that considered advertising? |

Hi StonedPirate,
great to hear you have given up the smokes. awesome stuff. i gave up the smokes and the little cigars became a good way of filling the need to get a nicotine fix. However I realised I was just moving the problem sideways. either have a $40 cigar on a special occasion or nothing at all. That is my 2 bob but giving up cigarettes is something you should be personally very proud of. |

Happy to see you quite the nails but sucking on a cigar is worst for your for health (no filter) and in all likelyhood lead you back to the little white nails.
On my secend last attempt I did the same as you and eventually went back to cigs. My last quit was 20 years ago and still going. A good cigar still smells sweet but I wont risk it and I suspect it will taste foul, no matter the brand.

as others have said, must have been a bad romeo y julieta, but you did say u got it from a bottle shop...theres the issue.
try order online from these guys http://www.cigars.com.au/Products/Ci...on/Cigars.aspx or if you are in Melbourne, head to there shop. Romeo's, Monticristo, Cohiba, Davidoff etc are all good brands. avoid cheap cigars as they are often very harsh. That been said, when i was in Bali a year ago, got these Indo ones at a 7-11 shop and they were $5 and were great. Recently bought a Monticristo A for me and my bro for his 30th. 2 1/2hrs later i finished it. Amazing cigar...but at $80 a pop, not your every day cigar.

Thanks mate
I have since aquired some premium cigars online. Night and day difference between bottleshop cigars. Where have they been all my life :P Definitely preferring the cubans over the non cubans. And congrats Mark for quitting. Hopefully my weekly cigar doesnt lead me back to the ciggies but i doubt my mrs will allow it lol. Another good thing about spending $60 on a single cigar is that you have no more money to buy cigs for the week lol. |
