Hi guys,
I'm about 3-6 months away from buying a new rig and I was just wondering what your experience has been with cop trouble if you own a lightly modded xr6t. I have searched numerous threads looking for some first hand experience on whether they're getting much attention from the cops, but I'm yet to find any decent information. Im tossing up between ba xr6turbo, vy ss/clunsport (try not to hate too much) and ba xr8. If I get the turbo it'll cop a bigger cooler, injectors, fuel pumpand tune. If I get one of the v8 options just intake, tune and catback (if I'm not lucky enough to find one in good condition that already has a full exhaust So is there anyone out there that has similar mods to their xr6t and has experienced any hassle from the cops? I would really appreciate any input that y'all can give me, as I have 2 kids, I'm not very cashed up and I'll be stuck with whatever I buy til after me and the missus buy a house. Furthermore I really can't afford to be clearing defects all the time either, I live in Vic (bendigo) and I do a. ******** of hwy k's. Also what ever I buy will be getting lowered on some 19's or 20's too, incase that helps with any of your views. Thanks again guys, hopefully I'm not just another annoying **** starting a thread. Cheers |

I think you'll be fine. Its the idiots driving like morons who bring attention upon themselves that get done. Drive normal and I dont think you'll be having an issue.
If your still worried, remove the turbo badge from the rear boot lid so it looks like an n/a xr6. Do your mods tastefully too. Under bonnet stuff cant be seen so u should be fine there too. The sleeper look is what you want.

I had a BF XR6T with similar mods to what you want to do, I had the aftermarket intercooler powder coated matte black and didn't have any other visible mods. In a little over 3 years of ownership I was never pulled over by the cops. Don't drop it too low and you will be fine.

Great advice there blueoval
As the others have stated, do the right thing on the roads and don't dump it, do silly things or make it too loud and you'll be fine. Unlike myself many years back! .

Don’t attract attention to yourself and you will be fine. Drive the car as you would any other car and you will be fine.
I used to drive my BA GT daily and only pulled up once on a Friday night in 4 years. |

^^^^ Agree with blue oval, the bigger factor is your driving style. Recently brought a fg xr6t, stock as a rock, but my point is I don't drive like I'm trying to over compensate for a lack of manhood. If your mods are tasteful, and don't look like they are in breach of any modification laws, the cops will not put you on their 'blacklist' for harassment. I believe if you shop around or are willing to maybe powder coat any shiny pipes in black, you can mod things to keep the whole sleeper look.

Wow thanks guys,
These replies are awesome! Yeah I'm not really into shiny or chromed out stuff at all so anything that would normally be polished would either get powdercoated black or just spray painted til I had the spare cash. Also my driving style is pretty tame these days as I rarely drive without the kids in the car and I lost my license for 13 months a few years ago, so now I really appreciate my license and don't risk driving like a hoon anymore. And I will most probably be de-badging the whole car anyway, except for the front and rear ford badges. Thanks again for the replies guy's you've pretty much answered all my questions. When Im ready to buy something I'll keep you all Updated. Thanks again, your all top blokes |

I was driving my XR6T over the long weekend with double demerit points..
Was slightly over the speed limit when I saw a cop in a side street with a radar gun pointed at my car.. he just waved for me to slow down, waving his hands downwoods.. Didnt pull me up. My XR6T looks stock under the hood, stock looking exhaust and slightly lowered. Still makes 330rwkw.. Dont drive it like a hoon and you will be fine.. Back a few years a go when the police used to try and bait people into drags, I had a previous XR6T and a copper came flying up in a f6 and was along side punching it and backing off, punching it again. I didnt flinch and just kept driving, then he sped off. It was definately a cop car, dark windows but could easily see the equipment and aerials.. Dont drive it like a hoon. |

Thanks grippy and hulk,
Yeah I drive pretty tame and as far as mods go, I'm not trying to become king of the dyno or The street. Only reason I'll be molding it is to get the the most out of the engine and improve on the package ford gave us. Also I figure there's no point modding it after I have already had it a couple years and only a couple more away from selling it, because if I mod it at the start I can enjoy it the whole time I have it, Cheers |

I drove a mildly modified BF XR6T daily for 4 years without ever being pulled over. If you keep it looking stock without going big blingy wheels you should be fine. You can get great power out of them with the engine bay still looking very standard.

Yeah you will be fine mate. Being a uni student my car looks pretty bad at the moment, different rims from and back (lost the back stocks to a pothole) dont have the money to buy a full set. Reasonably loud exhaust on it. As long as you don't do anything to grab attention from the cops they won't bother you, I drive mine like a granny mostly and I've never been pulled over once.

Yeah thanks Jack,
I'm a uni student too, that's why I was so worried about getting defected (coz I won't have the cash to get them cleared). Can't wait til I'm finished uni though, be loving the cash! Good luck with your studies bro. |

Rip the gay badges off. No dramas- standard looking xr6. If you put a big front mount in it, paint it black, easy as sleeper.

My ED XR6T has a giant intercooler hanging out the front, basically drags it's **** on the black top and is loud to boot.
No attention from the police - it's all about the way you conduct yourself on the road. By all means have a play - just be sensible where you could be noticed.

Great advice.
Go the sleeper look. Taking off the turbo badge is another simple thing. Don't have the car barking at a million decibels sitting one inch from the ground and you'll be sweet. Driving style and attitude on the road from yourself and not the car would solve 70% of any worry u had. Good luck and once u get the car don't forget to post up pics!!!

For sure guys,
The plan is (looks wise) just to lower it to a legal height on some dark agents or other ford wheels and get rid of all badges besides the front and back ford ones, so I'm pretty sure that shouldn't attract too much attention. And ill definitely post up some pics when I get the cash up to buy one, bout 3-6 months! |

Behave yourself , be courteous....... you only have to be seen driving like a rat bag a couple of times by constable plod , even if he is not in a position to get you those times, your car will be on his **** list.

don't wear your baseball cap backwards or at all while driving!
I have had my BA GT with a loud exhaust, stipes and silly big wing for 6 months and I have been waved pass 2 breath testing stations while every other car got pulled over and a cop van even flashed me before a speed trap 1km down the road i get pulled over all the time in my wagon only because its black and low but they never look at the car just RBT check and i'm away or in a cosy suburb and drive like a d!.k some old lady/man will dob you in and the next time a cop sees you they'll pull you over just to make you aware they are watching, so do your burnouts at least 5km away from home

Hahaha eb v8, yeah I'm not 19 anymore no burnouts out the front of my house and we've actually got a bit of farmland near shepparton if I feel the need to kill a set! Not that I feel a real need to do that I try to tell myself Th at I'd rather have a nice ride forever and treat it like a baby than only have it for 6 months and wrap it around a pole. Yeah I usually don't wear my hats when I'm driving but I do have a large portion of my body tattooed in all those 'job stopper' places, so hopefully the cops don't give me too much trouble for that! I'll be getting my windows tinted for the kids anyway.
Thanks for your input guys. |

I've actually always wanted to put the bf mk2 ghia front on a turbo, but I don't know if it will be in my budget!
Really trying to keep to a budget and not throw all my money into mods with this car. Trying to keep it all at the 10k mark, I think it should be possible, they're pretty cheap these days and it's not like I'm gonna dump crazy money into it. Just a nice clean daily that I'm proud to drive my family in and maybe to the occasional cruise to talk some ****. But just out of curiosity what's a mk2 ghia front end conversion goin for these days? |

Mate, i've owned a VY clubsport, BA XR8 and currently i have an FG XR6 turbo. Have you driven all the cars you are tossing up buying? I only say this as the VY clubby is such a drivers car. Mine was a manual and just had bolt on mods to make 250rwkw and it is the best car i have ever owned. Gave me no trouble and had that real V8 character, i never got trouble from cops, it's all about how you drive.
Do yourself a favour and drive all three cars mate. I'm happy with my xr6 turbo but it doesn't have character and it isnt a drivers car. |

I been driving my Xr6T for a year this Friday, and not once i been pulled over & i drive like blueoval says, drive normal & don't attract attention with aggressive or impatient driving. Only incident ive had was two weeks ago when a cop car was behind me for a good 10 minutes and i didnt know it was a cop car, he was waiting to see if id speed or hoon then he passed me thats when i found out it was a cop car & it was at night time. I never gave him an excuse to pull me over. Yep i got my turbo badge for all to see too. Drive normal as if your driving any ordinary family car & you will be ok.

Further more, me being a middle aged man plays a role in my favour, ive had cops getting ready for me at traffic lights at a distance then take a look at me, they see all my greys & i see their faces physically relax. If only they knew Im sure its same for all older members in here.

Hi fordomatic,
Whatever I buy will definitely be auto, because I want to make sure that of I have a few drinks the missus can always drive me home. Yeah I haven't driven a chubby before only a vs v8 ute with the usual mods and a vy ss ute with mafless, exhaust otr etc. Haven't driven the xr8 and I've only driven a stock xr6turbo. The only reason I had the clubby in the mix was once how I saw how cheap they are at the Moment (most people are asking around 12k with the usual mods so I figure they're only actually selling for 10) so I thought I would put it in the mix as a possibility, just because it suits the basic criteria and budget(around 10k decent power, cheap parts, lsd, comfy and looks good). Hey xw yeah like I've said I drive pretty tame these days (I always have the kids in the car so I don't really have a choice, because I'd never risk driving like a hoon with the kids in the car I would end up on a current affair! Lol Thanks for your input guys and keep it coming I'm open to everybody's opinion and ill be starting to test drive when I've got atleast 6k saved as otherwise I think I'll end up falling in love and going to get a loan ( something I really don't want to do) |

There is a lot of misinformation about this topic spread mostly by people that drive like morons then complain when they get caught by the cops. Not an XR6T but I owned a cammed and blown Tonner for a year and a half and admittedly drove like a moron at times, still while using it as a daily driver I was pulled up a grand total of 4 times; twice for speeding, once for getting a little sideways and once because it was stupidly low. Basically I had to do something dumb to get pulled up in heavily modded V8. Drive like a sensible person and you're fine.
