If it's unlocked.. Open the door and push or tow or do a bit of emergency wiring job and drive it away...
If it was locked, not much harder, just need to hit and turn the lock.. Or bring a brick. Guessing it was unlocked. Sounds like it was an easy target.. But really who does around looking for unlocked cars and houses to steal from. Scum.

Modern cars have immobilisers built into the ECU/BCM, they won't start unless it sees the key in the ignition, so that usually rules out hot wire.
Look for his keys around the house I suggest, if he leaves his car keys by the front door like a lot of people, it would just be a case of get in and grab the keys and drive off in it. |

I did a training course with a guy that worked in a shop that did a lot of recovery work after cars were stolen, many modern cars are stolen after the thieves get into the house and steal the keys, apparently it's easier than trying to start many modern vehicles

Usually is.. Good hard twist on the wheel in most cars I think.
It depends how much they wanted it, or planned to take it.. A mate had his heavily secured hsv taken.. They left marks where the dragged it sideways then onto a tilt tray or similar.

If its a commercial vehicle there not requuired to have a factory fitted imobiliser, some brand, spec, models do, usualy the base models dont.
If its a navara d22 then prob didnt have a key style immob. very easy to steal, as for the steering lock, i dunno, have heard of people being able to snap them.

Usually rob the house for the keys, or tow away with no more to pay.

Was the D22 heavily modified mate? i know in Sale and surrounding area 2 years ago there were alot of 4x4 thefts around the area. The cuprits were rolling them out the driveway and putting them on a flatbed in under 60 seconds. Big money in second hand 4x4 parts. I always use my steering lock, kill switch and park where it can't be rolled away easily. My GQ may only be worth $5 grand but selling mods separately i'd get 10 grand easy just for the parts. Just a thought

Bad luck about the car but as far as I’m concerned, lucky they could take it without resorting to house breaking as well.
No need for a thief who’s just after a car to have to go to another level. I leave my keys in a bowl near the door, it saves a thief having to come into the bedroom and wake us up. The missus can give a real fright to someone who’s not used to her just woken up look. |

Not sure if it's the same with new cars but my old bmw broke down at bunnings once due to the immobilisers anyway it took less than 5 mins to disable the immobiliser and start it from the starter motor, got me home. Shouldn't say this but the bronco's professionally installed immobiliser can be disabled just by disconnecting the wire from the positive on the battery.

What about a GPS set-up, are they worth it? I put just a GPS warning sticker on mine when it was in the paddock. Probably saved the car from a tip-rat with a tilt-tray. Havn't they got variants that once the car is moved it notifies you? Stuff that. GTA should be min 5 years first offence.

If a D22 its pretty easy to pinch. Just punch the lock. I can start my old navara with my parents pathfinder key.

If he still has the keys then it's likely that:
they were able to get a new key made with the VIN number (which can often be seen from outside the vehicle through the windscreen in some vehicles, so it is a good idea to cover up those plates on the inside). They then got someone at the dealer to make a new set of keys. |

If the car did not have an alarm then it would be as simple as opening he door , pull the hand break up and roll it down he drive way and street h into a back of a trailer or tow truck. With 2 or 3 guys, the car can be gone in a matter of 5 minutes with minimal amount of sound.
Gps trackers, phone trackers are good but for a pro that has a $30 jammer, gps and phone network jammer then hear are simple to get around, the hammers are simple to get also and can be smaller than a pack of smokes with an on off switch. |

Some thieves are posing as repo guys, they have the trucks with the lifts, and presumably the dollies when needed.

Good News....Police highway patrol officer has located the ute been driven by the offenders.
They have been charged. Offenders had a correct Nissan factory looking key in the ignition when apprehended.[I cannot work that one out] Thanks to the boys in blue. |

Perhaps locate the 2 original keys and have them ready as I believe insurance won't pay out any damage caused from the theft if you have left the key in the car. Not saying they were left in the car, but they will question the correct Nissan key they are using.

When I worked in claims the rep who lodged the claim would ask 12 key questions. Once the claim had been lodged we would usually have a look at the questions and anything not normal we would ask further info and if it needed to be investigated the P.I would ask further questions, but never denied a claim or not covered damage because keys left in a car. |
