Smile Ford Focus RS $50,990 July 2016

http://www.ford.com.au/research/buil...178090534/path
'The fearsome Ford Focus RS uber-hatch with its 257kW/440Nm punch will cost just $50,990 plus on-road costs when it arrives in Australia from the middle of 2016, the company today revealed.

The sharp price of entry for the headliner of Ford’s LZ Focus range thereby commands a $12,000 premium over the current hero, the 184kW ST. But it also costs $9000 less than the previous-generation 224kW Focus RS sold here in 2010/11.

In fact, at this rarefied air, the Focus RS looks very sharp indeed.

It undercuts its premium German rivals, the 270kW Audi RS3 ($78,900) and 265kW Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG ($75,700) by $25,000 and more. It also easily undercuts the BMW M135i and its 240kW/450Nm inline-six ($62,900).'

It neatly beats out the more mainstream 206kW Volkswagen Golf R ($52,740). Only the 221kW Subaru WRX STI ($49,490) undercuts it, but the Ford claims higher outputs."

In terms of practical car this is better then the Mustang. But the Stang is a great weekend car.

Drive away is over 58k.
Golf R fully optioned with DSG / Roof / Drivers assist and leather is the same.
Thats a hard choice.
Especially when modding them, as the Golf will always be quicker

The RS is already quicker, so why would the Golf always be quicker. Makes zero sense

Careful saying that, has anyone but Ford tested the RS?
I don't doubt the RS is fast(er) BUT like many here state, until it is independently tested and verified then it is all marketing.

Well VW claim 0-100 in 5.0 secs, Ford claim 4.7. And RS has more power.

Good luck Joe average getting 4.7 considering manual as the only option.

VW / Audi driver simply stands on it while RS driver stalls it / bogs it / changes gear at wrong revs / misses gear completely.

Still a nice car though...just a shame no Auto for the daily grind.

As per other thread (don't you love it when multiple threads are started?) driveaway is 55 odd. Regular production model, their biggest issue far as I can see will be making enough to meet demand. AWD and pricing this thing is going to score some runs. Providing dealers don't rape us.

Just a reminder, this vehicle has a blue oval on the front. Not known for fudging numbers last time i looked AWD and the tech mean it should be easily reproduced unlike the variables in a RWD lower tech platform. And there is too much riding on it to advertise BS, this is a true halo vehicle for the brand. Awesome work Mr Ford and a lovely well priced gift on the departure of our beloved Aussie.

Impressed by the RS. Definetly something to consider next year.
Though its a porker compared to the class leading Golf R. 150kg heavier

Ford RS is a bigger car
Going by quoted dimensions......
Hence heavier

You raise a good point. But 1575kg is hefty. To give a better idea, a ecoboost mustang weighs 20kg more.

You would have a point if the mustang wasn't 400mm longer and 100mm wider. It gives an idea how much heavier it is in its own class.

Well it has launch control so shouldn't be too hard, probably just one gearshift to get to 100 I would think.

Had this and the Mustang on our shopping list for next car but after the disgraceful Customer service we received over our '13 focus and the "awesome" DSG the missus wont even consider another ford, bluntly refuses no exceptions to go anywhere near another one. You can also have your VW with DSG, long time before I go near any DSG again. There may be arguments though if the 5.2 flat plane GT350 comes here.

You would hope that is the case, the st requires you to go to third to get to 100, that would slow that 0-100 time by stacks!
