Default Perth Yellow Defect Notice rules for driving.

Ok Here is the story, My son got pulled over in his EF and defected for Bald tyres and blowing smoke (head Gasket gone).

He proceeded to drive the car home to park it until we could fix it and get it to an inspection centre however he was pulled over a second time on the way home by several two wheeled Temporary Australian Officers and slapped with a fine for driving the vehicle.

I could be wrong but doesn't the defect notice allow the vehicle to be driven for repairs or to an inspection centre up until the expiry date of the defect notice?

I was under the impression that only a red stickered car could not be driven on the roads?

Unless its changed they usually give you a week or two to get the repairs done and still drive it around. You see cars driving with yellow stickers all the time.

Yellow sticker has a expiry date

http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licen...ow-sticker.asp

If head gasket and bald tyres, is it really worth actually fixing?
Unless done himself and or mates rates, its costly and may be easier buying a new runabout

As for fine for driving vehicle, its allowable, but see your local police establishment and see what they say about it all

What did the fine state exactly. When does the yellow expire

My Mistake Fellas, I just had a better read of the defect notice. It has four small boxes at the bottom one which is ticked Method of Removal, Lift/Tow not to be driven. Hence why the Fine for driving it.
Regards to the removal of the notice We aren't even going to bother. Turning it into a Burnout Pig or Swap it for a Licenced 50cc Scooter.

Just get a 2nd hand donk and drop it in there. It will almost certainly be cheaper than even buying the head gasket kit. As far as the tyres go, you can get some new Kumhos (or something else similarly nasty) for about $80 each.

Total fix shouldn't be much more than $300-$500 if you know how to wrangle it.

If you're up for it, go to the salvage auctions and pick up an AU dirt cheap.
(I accidentally almost bought a nice looking AU for $40)
Engine can be swapped with just a little modification to the sump and.or cross-member. You may even get some decent tyre that can be swapped (rims don't fit unfortunately)

They dont do reds anymore, just a yellow with an expiry time, or as in your sons case lifted and towed, not to be driven.
But I must say, a bit rough, or the tyres must have been really bad and wet roads.

Swap in a $300 N/A Barra rather than fix the head gasket

So how bald were the tyres and how many. Do you think the yellow was fair.

What are "several two wheeled Temporary Australian Officers" ?

Is this a WA thing ?

No; I think it is just an outdated reference to motorcyclists being "temporary Australians" because of their increased risk of being a road fatality. I have seen eastern staters use the same term for motorcyclist on the Old Holdens forum (a forum that probably has a much higher mean age than this forum).
