Default Ford dealer service...not

Hi. We took the bosses new FG-X ute to the local ford dealer for its first service, no problems to fix but we asked if they could activate the reverse camera function in the ICC. The service adviser glanced into the cabin and then said he didnt think it could be done and the best thing to do was fit an extra screen (we already have an 8inch screen replacing the mirror for a full time rear view but it still leaves a big blind spot as the camera is on top of a gilflite service box). Pick the ute up and get told that it was not done as the camera we have wont work with the factory screen and cant use the factory screen all the time blah blah blah, if they had of asked we would have told them that once activated we were going to add another camera to fill in the blind spot when reversing. So off to ASL next week and find a dealer who can do simple things when asked. Cheers MD

You can't go wrong with ASL, they did my reverse camera kit, and I gave it to the dealer to be installed before I picked my ute up..... No problems at all.

It seems to me that you guys may not have communicated your request clearly

AS you said they told you your existing camera wasn't compatible when you collected it?

If you had have told them could they please activate is as your having a new camera fitted soon i'm sure the outcome would have been more favorable, if nothing else they would have tried to sell you a camera them selfs

I'm happy to bag the dealer (hell I have a heap of personal tails of woe) but you have to be clear with your requests as well

I dont know who ASL are can they perhaps activate the screen?

Hi. So round for was a flop for us and another fail for the local dealer, The boss spoke to a service advisor before booking the ute in and again when dropping the ute off and was told no problems "we can turn it on so you can use your own camera". Picks up ute after service and function not enabled, "we have to fit (supply & fit?) a camera to make it work". It turns out they get the auto accessory place next door to them to s&f the asl camera and use the one shot dongle to activate it. Cheers MD

This time the boss did say we wanted to fit our own camera in the future (not the one that is fitted at the moment and works full time) and we only wanted the function turned on. One wonders why ford cant sell cars when the cant even provide a full workshop service on their cars. Cheers MD

Pretty sure ASL sell a module that can activate your screen.

Hi. Yes, they do have a dongle that plugs in to the ford to activate the screen but they are only 5 minutes down the road from us and we have our own range of cameras we would like to try on it. Cheers MD

Hi. Round 2 and 3. ASL quoted $200 to turn the function on (same price as supply a one shot dongle) so the boss said wait till it goes back to the dealer that sold the ute...... and they said because it was a cab/chassis it couldn't be done. Dealers nil and ASL are still a bit expensive.
Round 4. Boss is doing some work for a ford dealer in the northern suburbs and gets blocked in the driveway by a truck and is talking to a service guy "Yes, no problem, cant do it now but let us know when you bring it in for service and we can do it then. So the waiting game begins. Cheers MD

sadly it's not just Ford is it? it seems these days that people can only deal with 'standard' requests, whatever you are talking about. Anything even slightly out of the ordinary is too hard

$200.00 to activate the system?
How long would it take?

Hi. It takes about 15 minutes on a VW, cant see any reason for a ford to take any longer. Cheers MD

We trialed a ASL dongle on my Ute few years back for there reverse camera, the dongle was loaned to Bdazzla as testing unit for the ASL reverse camera set-up and then returned.
Put dongle in the OB2 port lock the doors, turn key on, turn key off, unlock doors, the sequences was similar to that it was a few years ago the process took approx 2 mins.
You are paying for the R&D and the technology not just the time it takes to initiate the computer to camera.

Hi. And if we didnt have a ford dealer who said that they could do it we would probably go to asl but we still have another dealer to try, just have to let the service dept know when we get there instead of when we are ready to leave. Cheers MD
