With the closing of the manufacturing plants at Broadmeadows and Geelong near, I wish to thank the staff of Ford Australia for years of dedication and remarkable engineering ability to produce great cars on lower budgets than what I would think the parent company could manage.
As has been discussed, and as stated by Ford, they wish to have a low key and respectful celebration given to the employees at the end of production. As this is the case, I thought Ford Australia employees should understand that probably all Ford Forums members would wish them well in the future and in the transition to hopefully new employment. Over the many decades, through the ingenuity and ability to engineer cars to suit Australian conditions, you have also given many Ford fans reason to celebrate the vehicles they own through the building of iconic models such as GT HO's, Falcon Hardtops, and XR6-8 series of cars, that have created a following and place in history. This also lead to a loyalty for some of us to the brand and following that also created a lifestyle where the car is as much a part of the family and more than a just a form of A to B transport or a hobby. The vehicles you created and built changed Australia and the lives of people that followed and owned them, and created fan rivalry with opposition manufacturers which is the stuff of legend. Although the company is to become an importer of vehicles in the future, you can be sure are leaving behind a massive legacy which you and Australia can be proud of.
