Just go to https://moneysmart.gov.au/find-unclaimed-money and enter you and relatives, close friends and ancestors names. I do this once a year and always find something albeit (sadly) never for myself.

Your super fund should also have the ability to check to see if you have any outstanding lost super funds and if you do, roll those funds over to your current super fund.
Most super funds should offer this functionality online. Check it out.

An old neighbour did this as his work. Family business actually, searching for lost inheritances, then calling those who should benefit.
“We’ll get the money owed to you, but keep 20%” . Most people said “get eff’d” . I couldn’t help but think what a slimy way of making a living. Thanks Blue. Nothing owed to me though. |

"Unclaimed money received by ASIC is transferred to the Commonwealth of Australia Consolidated Revenue Fund. I will just let the Commonwealth use it for a little while longer, it might be enough to get a nice prawn cocktail at one of the $w@nky restaurants on the next tax payer funded trip. Meh, if they want my $98 that much they can have it.
Im sure as people drop off the perch they transfer it into the government Christmas party fund, so they would get a fair chunk each year. |

It's all relative I guess I have found some companies that have hundreds of thousands in unclaimed monies and they have made no claims despite me contacting them in various ways over a number of years. I think they believe I am some sort o\f scammer although they are all companies that I dealt with intimately when I was working and whose senior staff should remember me. Others though have bee supervised and grateful for the tip off and have difficulty believing that I don't want any reward and the warm feeling I get about making someone's day is enough. There was the guy who was over the moon until he found, that under his divorce settlement, his ex-missus was going to get it all. Nonetheless, he still insists he will buy me a drink if we ever cross path again.

Small town USA is alot like small town Australia salt of the earth people. The large citys like most around the world you can find trouble, be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine. Alaska is so far my favorite place there. When they will let me back in there will be no stopping us... (Substitute vaccination for vacation in my post above, dam spellcheck) |

Other State Agency sites that allow you to search for Unclaimed Monies:
Victoria https://www.sro.vic.gov.au/unclaimed-money South Australia https://www.treasury.sa.gov.au/Our-s...nclaimed-money NSW https://www.revenue.nsw.gov.au/uncla...d-make-a-claim Queensland https://www.pt.qld.gov.au/other-serv...claimed-money/ WA (for completeness)https://www.wa.gov.au/service/busine...nclaimed-money TAS and NT seem to expect you to just know you have unclaimed monies unless it's something like a deceased estate but also see the links here: https://moneysmart.gov.au/find-uncla...te-governments

I will grant them more intelligence than they had in 1982. We had been working the motel cleaning circuit, cash in hand, free accomadation & meals and the first guy (met him in Aus) provided a van for 12 months)all jobs were referreees from previous motel
after 3 months 1 motel manager asked us how long we had been there, then asked how we learnt the lauguage in 3 months what a dumb asse. Told him phynetically. He thought we were amazing.

I do hear you tonz, some of there general knowledge is some what lacking on things outside the States, give me a dollar for the times I've been called a Aussie over there, then trying to explain the location of New Zealand. One asked if there was a bridge from NZ to Aussie.
Phonetics is sorly missed in NZs education system, another face palm moment. Last edited by five 7; 19-04-2023 at 08:02 PM. |

NZ also seems a bit evasive about disclosing lists of what unclaimed monies their Government has https://www.ird.govt.nz/unclaimed-money
