I like how simple the dash, instrument cluster and interior is.

It's just clean and has everything you need - a simple car without too much trickery going on, feels like a lost art these days.

Yeah, that caught my eye as well. Surprisingly grubby in the engine bay for a vehicle that has done so few km. Actually, surprisingly grubby all up. I am not sure that starting and idling without load for early 40 years is doing the engine any good either.

That Chargers compliance plate area looks dodgy..I know they rust there, but what they have done is screwed the options plate that usually lives on the LHS (passenger) onto the RHS, where the compliance plate should be... and it doesnt seem to actually have the compliance plate. What is pictured is a later, 76 style options plate.

Maybe the original compliance plate rusted away when the plenum area rusted.

Its also advertised as a 72 (VH), but looks to be a 76 CL in all areas.

True, I noticed that... I believe its actually CM regal grill, at least the grill insert is, that differs to CL. (big silver plastic squares on CL, steel mesh with small squares on CM painted dark grey)

And sure people can change the front clip... but all of that car looks CL rather than 1972... the interior, dash, wiring, quarter panel vinyl trim piece, even the sill panel chrome moulding, list goes on etc etc...and as mentioned, the options plate. if it is indeed a 1972 (VH) someone went all the way fitting CL everything to it.

Perhaps they got the year wrong in the listing (would they?) ... or maybe its a CL and has VH rego.

The VINs weren't recorded in SA on the rego back then, so number plate swaps did happen when people wanted to just reg one of those things easily and had a registered plate donor.

Nothing like my old E49 VH, thats not to say someone hasn't had an old VH Charger and slapped CL Panels lights and interior on it though, anything's possible.

Interestingly when you go to the SA Rego Check site and enter the old rego number in (RDV194) it comes up as a Chrysler Sedan.

Im quite sure they all say 'sedan' on the SA reg site even when they are chargers, or even the hardtops... so thats not a giveaway to anything funny.

Infact I just checked a registered CH hardtop I know of now and it comes up as 'sedan' .. and even a dodge challenger says 'sedan'

I hadnt seen your post when I made my previous one just now.. so many things on that car look genuine CL .. yes as you know you can swap it all, but the later model options plate with the blue paint that is screwed into the obviously patched up plenum with tek screws on the wrong side is definitely not found on 72 models... so if it is a 72 they even swapped that in, and the VIN listed by the auction joint that is on that plate, is actually just the paint code I believe, not a VIN.

The vin should start with VH-6 (or CL-6 perhaps )

This is what a VH compliance plate looks like, on the VH they just had the one plate that had the vin and the options on it...




Later on, perhaps with the VK (im not sure when, but I know CL and CM had the two plates, and VH only one) , they added another plate on the LH plenum that had the options codes.. which is what that plate is on the charger advertised... its not actually a compliance plate, regardless of which model it actually is.

A fella i knew back in the day had a VH Valiant Regal station wagon that ended up with a CL makeover, you could hardly tell the differance, but he wasn't trying to pull a shifty and was upfront about it, especially as it had VH360 number plates on it

Not quite. You'll notice the wording on the plaque where it shows the "Last Falcon V8...". Ford were still manufacturing V8 Fairlanes and LTD's at the Eagle Farm plant until December 1982 and the F Series vehicles until August 1985 (for the 351 Cleveland's) and December 1992 (for the 351 Windsors).
