Impressive to see how fast 417 k's looks in action.
Wouldn't want a truck or another vehicle to suddenly pull out in front of the lane, though. |

And contrary to what the government has been telling us, speed does not kill.
Inappropriate speed kills!

Me either.
Play on. That speed looks incredible. Wonder long the stop took.

I can just see all the 'experts' in transport NSW having seizures , some one hits 400km/h on an appropriately designed highway and does not suddenly cause mass fatalities.
Although the guy driving in a racing suit

all fantastic until someone inadvertently moves into the lane doing 200km/h - the closing speed would be enormous

of course they do - have a look at what they have in place for emergency response - if they all drive so well, why do they need this?

Their driving skills are about 1000 times better than your average victorian who spends a few hours behind the wheel being taught bad habits by crappy driver trainers. And an attitude of if I drive 10kms under the speed limit i barely even need to watch the road. |

Maybe the problem was he was taught how to drive in Victoria? They've just reduced a few 100 zones to 80 here and a 60 zone down to 40 recently in Bulla in the north western suburbs of Melbourne, it's like they're encouraging me to read AFF while I'm driving. Let's reduce the Calder Freeway to 40km/h between Kangaroo Flat and Keilor Park, just to save lives of course. Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 10-02-2022 at 12:14 PM. |

On the autobahn the average speed is about 150. Enthusiasts in high performance cars do a lot more than that. Yet they still have a lower road death toll than us. How does that work since our authorities are sure that fining people for doing 3km/h over the limit is saving the world. |

Well, according to my calculations, it would be 217km/h ;-)

'' For those that say it was irresponsible and dangerous:
4:50am on Sunday 10 cars per 10km so 1 car per 1 km Good visibility is about 3-4km straight ahead so there is enough time to react. The Chiron can brake from 400 to 0 in 9 sec. within 490m. All cars are in the far right lane. There was an earlier drive through the section to make sure there is nothing on the road. There is a fence along the whole stretch of the highway, so no animals can interfere. 3 people were spotting on 3 bridges for maximum safety. If you still think it’s irresponsible and dangerous, well, we respect your personal opinion. What did the guy in the Porsche feel like when he was overtaken at 417? Here is his testimony, as he was another spotter to make sure everything was safe: As I drove the yellow Porsche 911 Turbo S at over 200 km / h, I absolutely didn't understand how the car could overtake me so fast. The moment the Bugatti passed me, was absolutely stunning. It was like a fighter jet flew by. The speed and roar of the engine cannot be forgotten. Absolutely amazing experience. CR '' |

it's not the speed that's the problem if you read it carefully. it's because it is a race. even a 'single vehicle race'

"Under German law, driving at such speeds is punishable even if, as in this case, it was a so-called solo race, provided the driver was travelling “at an inappropriate speed and in a grossly irregular and reckless manner in order to achieve the highest possible speed.”
If found guilty, Passer faces imprisonment of up to two years or a fine." He will get a fine, that's it

Just shows how pointless such cars have become
What is the point of owning a car who's selling point is doing 400kph Like buying a supersonic fighter jet, and never leaving the ground. Don't get me wrong, they are obviously an incredible feat of engineering, and creds to this bloke and his team for actually putting it to the test, but for most owners they'd actually be better off with the implant. |

Haven't driven on the autobahn, but have driven in various parts of Europe.
My observation is that people there are generally more courteous when it comes to driving. This includes not being a left hand bandit (or right hand here). Its not common that you get some numptie on the outer lane going "slow", like you do here. Outer lanes are generally left clear for the aeroplanes. The fuzz are also much more likely to catch you if you hog the outer lane going slow. That's not to say it couldn't happen....but odds are less likely. 417 does seem a bit excessive though

Their road toll doesnt seem to be as bad as ours. And IMO i think it comes down to driver training. https://www.bitre.gov.au/publication...ty_comparisons Apologies for the off topic.

Guess that theres just a tiny bit less of a chance of something going wrong in those conditions than here for instance. But yeah if it did go wrong then you'd be dead before you could even react to the situation. Quote:
