Default Ranger Evolves 19.9.2023

It appears a new Ford Ranger is dropping in a few days.
Will it be EV, Hybrid, PHEV, Petrol engine or another sticker pack?
If I had to guess I would say it would be an EV, as this seems to be the way Ford is heading with most of its models.

I don’t think so, more likely to be PHEV I think.

Is it the Wildtrak X or has that already been announced?

That certainly has been announced.
I see room for a mild hybrid in the line up. Maybe with a petrol engine?

A hybrid would certainly be welcomed and definitely some government incentive for buyers.
If Ford get this right, I can see them needing another cargo boat….

With the tag line "best of both worlds", it will be the hybrid.

the company I work for has 900 rangers that are end of lease for renewal by the end of the year, I can see 900 hybrid rangers if ford do this right

That would be the sweet spot for me, Mitsu have some PHEV thing that does minimal L/100 and has a decent enough EV range.

A PHEV option could also be a great way to differentiate between 4x2 and 4x4 products,
I’m think that:
- the 4x4 PHEV (Ranger & Everest) could continue with existing high ride height
- the 4x2 PHEV (Ranger & Everest) could have the lower/std 4x2 ride height to increase differentiation

Since Ford doesn’t have many vehicles choices for our market, maybe presenting Ranger and Everest
as different kinds of vehicles attracts even more customers……

There is no difference in ride height of 4X2 and 4X4.
The low rider 4X2 is history.

Sadly, this will mean I won't be buying a new Ranger then.

Hopefully 2.3L Ecoboost hybrid.

Not 'mild hybrid' but proper hybrid.

45km range is worse than the Escape in reality it will be 35-40 .....if you're lucky in to town and back?

I suppose even if it's just used as a hybrid has got to be a good thing

Would be compromise between more batteries for more range at the cost of legal payload,

So compromises - it's a commercial vehicle.

If this can smash the diesel on fuel economy or match it then it's a winner, unleaded/E10 costs significantly less than diesel and the maintenance is cheaper too.

Thumbs up from Mr Thailand Special, Franco.

The compromise to keep the weight down to keep the payload up cancels any benefits because it basically won't be able to tow anything in EV because the range will be more or less cut in half ?

I’ve had a bit of experience with a PHEV and think it’s a great option for a lot of people. It works exceptionally well if you can charge it at work and live less than 25km from work.
Our fleet car was averaging about 1.3L/100km but copped a flogging and could easily be much lower with more conservative driving and better planning.
Of course someone has to pay to charge it somewhere.

You would be hard pressed to make a business case as a business manager to buy it on that limited range and no doubt a triple gold plated price
Doesn’t stack up
As a personal buy based on likes and emotion might be a different story

Agree if it's not price competitive and most PHEV, s aren't
